Hi,
I have a Nitto Big Front Rack on my Hillborne and would like to mount
my B&M Cyo on the side of the rack, ahead of where you'd normally hang
a pannier. The rack only has a hole in the very front and center of
the rack, which does not seem ideal for me. Are there any well made
clamps or work-arounds that any of you have encountered along the
way? I'd love to employ the Rene Herse bracket, but I would need to
somehow clamp it around the tubular steel.

Thanks for your suggestions in advance,
Jason

Why not ideal? I mount a Supernova there on my Atlantis, and it works extremely well -- never any blockage of the beam, which is at a good height and provides excellent illumination. +1 that front and center is terrific.

There's a flickr group just for mounting generator hub lighting. You
might find some inspiration there:

Thanks, Lynne - just joined that group.

Jason, I'd mount the light front and center. Otherwise, a simple P
clamp might work if it fit tightly enough. I imagine the longer arm
you get on it, the less likely it is to stay where you want it,
though.

Some people have made dynamite light-mount arms from brake parts and
other cast-off bike bits: http://www.biketinker.com/2011/projects/brake-arm-light-mount-extension/

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
As I rode my bike home tonight in the relentless pouring rain, I was
reminded why placing the light in the front hole of the Big Front Rack
doesn't really make sense.
Even though I have full coverage fenders, the water still shoots up
directly past the fenders, where the light would be...potentially
spraying the lamp in its most vulnerable spot.
I read somewhere on the Peter White site, that most dynolights are
pretty waterproof, but they don't like getting wet from the bottom.
So, as of now, I'm still seeking the perfect, elegant clamp.
thanks
Jason

Terracycle has some nice purpose-built mounts:

My light is mounted on my rack, but it was a custom rack and we
planned it that way :-)

The other bike is a more ad-hoc attachment, but I can tell you it is
very secure:

(that picture was 6000+ miles ago; same lighting attachment, exercised
every workday on my commute)

Both of them have been ridden in persistent, heavy rain for hours and
hours. No problems to date with either light.

Cheers,
Lynne F
