So I am building up my new Hunq, and one of the neo-retro brakes got damaged in shipping, which has bought me some time to ponder picking up some of the paul canti lever levers.

Just wondering if I *need* the Paul levers to use the shimano levers.  I have the regular silver mountain bikey levers from Riv, was planning on using those w/ the Paul brakes.  Now that I see how powerful the paul brakes are (they are BEEFY) I wonder if the little blurb on the paul site about using the canti levers w/ the neo retros is the move.

So I am really wondering - for those of you with paul neo retros - what do you think?  Need the paul levers?  Okay with shimanos?  What do you guys think?

Are you asking if Paul's canti levers are better then shimano canti levers? I feel the Paul's are nicer finished but both work fine.

I have sun tour canti xc levers now and they work great.

yep, just confirming that the shimano levers work w/ the neo retros.

I have Paul's Neo-retrospect and Touring brakes on both Atlantis and Hunqapillar and didn't like the Paul canti levers when I tried them. I much prefer them with the Shimano BL-R770 brake levers ergonomically. These feel much better in my hands.

Still, if you'd like to try the Paul ones, I can sell you mine (barely used-look like new) for a good price.

I have not found a lever that will NOT work well with the paul cantis. Unless you're a logo-matcher, purchasing the Paul Canti Levers is not necessary. They are pretty, however.

No experience with Paul canti levers or brakes. But I can tell you that Paul Love Levers are just plain better than the cheap Shimano levers I use on one of my cockpits (the brakes are Paul Motolites in both cases).

The Love Levers are significantly stiffer and feel more directly connected to the braking. The Shimanos feel fine. But the Paul's improve the braking feedback. They aren't purely for show.

This. Use any lever that you want.
