Hopefully you either ignored or have long forgotten my youtube documenting a DIY modification for my Grip King pedals

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo0YlOqqISs

Well, based on that, and the fact that neither my Dad nor I am very efficient with our time, we collaborated to make Version 2.0.  And by collaborated, I mean I did a sketch and my Dad in his machine shop garage did all the work.

The Grip King Supreme cage mod is a cage that you'll bolt into your Grip King Pedals, that will give your feet a lot better lateral support.  See the video to see what I mean.  The Version 2.0 ones are shaped a lot better, especially in the middle, there's a milled out relief that still allows the sole of your shoes to fully engage the nubs on the Grip King cages.

My Dad is shipping me several sets, and I will be offering them to sell.  This is a free-time thing that my dad just did for fun.  If we were charging time and materials, we'd probably have to sell them for $250 a pair.  Seriously, you should see the press/bender tooling he built for this project.  Anyhow, I'm not going to just give them away, even though I'm giving them away.  I might give a set to Rivendell.  So I'll be asking $25 shipped priority mail.  I will post copious pictures and maybe another youtube when they are actually in my hands.

I think my Dad is sending me 7 pairs.  I'll keep one, and send one to Rivendell.  I will have 5 more sets available, and am enthusiastic about making a lot more since my dad worked so hard on the tooling.  Stay tuned.

Great idea and very informative video. I'm interested when you decide to go in business.

That's a really nice mod, and your price is more than fair. Good work.

They are here!  I got the box from my dad from the UPS man today.  I'm super excited how they turned out.  They will all need some rework.  The bolt holes will need to be wowed out for clearance, and ovalized in some cases to line up right.  I will test fit every single pair that I sell and I'll take the ugliest set for myself.  The rest are available.  5 pairs $25 shipped.  There will be more.

There is a tiny radius on the inside corners, so you will need to run a file on each of the four corners of the cage.  You will also need to supply the slightly longer bolts.  I spent a total of about 45 seconds filing, but that helped the fit a bit.  Please check out the set of photos on flickr, and let me know if you want a set.  Three of you already declared that you wanted a set sight unseen, so I'll give right of first refusal to those three brave early adopters (but I will not be supplying EA buttons)

It looks like all 7 sets of this first batch are claimed by early adopters.  I'm delighted to get these pushed out for feedback, and it'll tickle my dad at the reception.  If you have not already emailed me, then I do not have a set to sell you immediately.  But within a couple weeks we should have more, that will be functionally identical, but hopefully will not require hand rework by me to get the bolt holes squared away.  If you want me to hold a pair from that batch for you, please contact me off list.  I won't ask any payment until I can commit to a particular date.

Beautiful job.
Those things are awesome, and huge. They are as big as frying pans.
(I guess they'll join eggbeaters and lollipops in the pantheon of food-themed pedals!)

Alex

I took your email as a complement.  Thanks.  I did not take it as a declaration of intent to purchase.  I hope that wasn't a mistake, because the seven sets I have are now taken.  If you want a set, I promise I can hold a pair from the next batch.

William,

Great job on the aftermarket modification. I installed the the u-
shaped contraptions just fine on my Grip Kings, and went out for a 30
mile spin through Seattle this morning. The increased stability is
very noticeable, my feet felt more planted through the pedal stroke.
The pedal also feels "grippier" having more support on the sides.
Conditions were windy and dry this morning so I haven't seen how it
works during rain, but it should help quite a bit. Great Job offering
this to the group.
