Just announced in the Blug: http://rivbike.tumblr.com/

Maybe we can do a bit of "Just Ride"-ing after.

Manny's a good photographer -- perhaps he can video-stream it for the
folks who aren't local.

Doing a overnight trip with my BoyScout troop the Friday to Saturday, most likely going to miss the Rivendell Garage sale. Might make the ride if it's planned in the afternoonish.
Diablo is nice and close. Maybe dirt riding back down?
Any suggestions?

So close and yet so far...I'll in the Bay area, (SF) but will not have time to stop in. Probably a good thing, but Damn!

That would be fun to go to that garage sale.

Hey Jim,

I'd like to just-ride with the group and I'd like to see that proto-Bombadil.

I was over at RBW this morning, picking up another pair of thin gripsters (oh yeah!), and heard that there will be some TALL frames at the garage sale... in case anyone is looking for a large bike.

No one took any pics for those of us not lucky enough to live in beautiful southern CA?

FYI, Walnut Creek is SO not "southern California", but that's a picky point between us locals...

Point taken, I have never been to CA  but know about local geography sticking points living in NYC and all. Take the ever expanding area called "Park Slope" in brooklyn, it started out as about 15 blocks but once it became trendy the real estate agents and newcomers claim that it now encompasses almost 35 blocks, craziness.

The fact that you make that mistake says less about your ignorance, and more about our silly demarcations. Except for Weed and Crescent City, just about any place in California is south of something else in California. When you make it out here, just remember there is no "Central California." South of San Luis Obispo, use the definite article when referring to freeways, e.g., "THE 5." Aside from "Alhambra" water being "Sparklets," that's about it. Operation Ivy and Green Day = NorCal, Sublime and Social Distortion = SoCal.

And remember, whichever part you're in, the other one sucks. Which is confusing for me because I grew up SoCal and now live NorCal.

So why does Hawaii get to claim "Mid-Pacific" when us right-coasters in the non-descript region between, say, lower NJ and upper North Carolina fall into the "Mid-Atlantic"? I would think the Bay-area is as much "Mid-Pacific" as anything else.

Why is "South Brooklyn" where I live not called "downtown Brooklyn", the area described as "Downtown Brooklyn" is actually part of the the uppermost (northern) part of Brooklyn before you get to Queens???

I'll definitely be at garage sale. Jim, what type of ride were you thinking about doing afterwards?

At past garage sales there has often been a group that climbs Diablo by road, and a group that does some mixed terrain rambling. I'd be up for anything but it turns out my daughter's last x-country meet (regional championships) is that morning. So shop well and have a good ride!

Actually, no matter where you are, the locals consider it to be the center of the universe.  Just ask 'em.

Yikes my boy scout troop overnight trip go canceled. Lack of people wanting to sleep in the rain I guess.
This frees up my Saturday. I'll be doing a Diablo ride up via road then taking the dirt trail down from Juniper campsites.
I vaguely remember the dirt part down. But I guess it won't really matter as long as you're riding down the hill.
Rain or shine. This will happen, something warm afterwards. Hope to see you all there!
