May be able to make this one, and if all goes well will have my Bombadil along.

Was able to grab a train to Naperville this morning, along with my Quickbeam. Tooled around town for a half hour before the talk. Nice to say Hi to Grant, but I had to catch the last train back to Chicago before the group ride. They had a nice display in the window, complete with a great Sam Hillborne.

Grant gave a nice talk, and I had to smile at the title of the book over his right shoulder.

Speaking of trains, this one left the station in Chicago just after I did. There were hundreds of photographers camped out along the route, and it flew through Naperville just after I got there. Very cool!

I was at the talk as well. Didn't go on the ride because I had errands to run (on bike of course). It looked like he had a good turnout for the ride as well as the talk.

The talk was kind of unpolished and rambling - which I liked.
Some interesting things I found out was that Grant still does intervals. Very short intervals by his account, but intervals nonetheless.
Also I got the impression that he really likes catching up to and passing lycra-clad riders while dressed like an unracer.

They're becoming more rambling and in my head they're becoming more visual, but less list-y. I see scattered topics and points to make that can be linked together in a variety of ways that make sense, but the way I put them together isn't necessarily the most efficient way. Although, I'd say, there is flow. I don't go down long lonely alleys and stew at the end, or anything. After so many talks, I'm trying to get out of a rut.

Clarification: I do intervals of some kind once a week, but not always on the bike. Often, not always. They last 6 minutes.

Chasing down others: I fight the urge and limit it to guys only and those who are clearly younger. But the opportunity doesn't come up much, because I don't go on long fast rides to nowhere and back on popular routes.
