Hello-
I recently purchased a used Nitto Mini Rack to put on my Riv A/R. To my surprise the struts are just short of the braze-ons. I measured the distance between the fork crown hole and the braze-on and get 155mm. But the Nitto rack measures 150 from the stud to the strut mounting hole. All measurements c-t-c.
Do you know what the distance usually is on Riv forks from the crown hole to the mid-fork braze-on? Do you have a mini rack, if so what does it measure from the mounting stud to the strut mounting hole? Any other advice/comments?

Pix here:

Thanks-

Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like you might be able to straighten the support struts and it would reach.

FWIW I have bent/straightened/re-bent a Nitto rack in the past to conform/fit to various bikes, with no issues.

I measured on my Bombadil.  My Nitto Mini went right on, and the distance does seem closer to the 150mm you are getting from your rack.  I have a second Nitto Mini that I had run on my Hillborne.  That also went right on with no special effort.  When I can find that rack I'll measure that, too, but I think its pretty likely that they are all ~150mm.

If you were to take on the bend idea, I think you'd want to try to slightly straighten the bent arms.  You'd need to be fairly careful, perhaps with some primitive tooling.

If you want to tinker (and want to avoid clamps), you could use
slotted bracket from the hardware store as an extension. I think the
mounts on your fork are more suited for the campee front full size
rack.

By 'campee full size' do you mean this one?

William,

I'm thinking of the one here, http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/r5.htm

the reason i suspect is that in this video, you can see mark use
clamps because the bosses are a little too high. i have an older
campee front with the same slots, i am able to use the bosses on my
hillborne, but the rack is not quite as level as it should be (i have
it tilted back a bit to meet the bosses). on my hillborne those
bosses were perfect for a nitto mini front.

Yeah, you and I are talking about the same rack.  Good theory.

The little Nitto on my Atlantis is 155 mm. Steel is highly malleable;
the bend option should work. You just ID'd the downside to braze-
ons. I had braze-ons added for my low riders, then changed to a
better rack without thinking to compare mounting points.

I wonder if they changed the struts length on the Nitto Mini. The bike was made in '99 by match and was spec'd for a Nitto mini, IIRC. I don't think bending the struts is an option. The pictures might not show it well enough but if I bend the struts down, they will move away from the braze-on since they will move in an arc. I'll probably just put the rack on my XO instead. Maybe I'll buy  the Mark's Rack from Riv or maybe another one that mounts to the canti bosses. The bike was built for 26" wheels, btw.

I've recently done the Nitto Mini Front installation on Sam Hillborne
(700C wheel). Based on your picture, it doesn't look too far off to
me.

I did have to bend the struts by hand for it to fit (note that the
center strut is a lot easier to bend than the support ones on the
sides). Just make sure not to let the rack sit too low. I ran into
problems later with fender installation. The rack was sitting too low
and the light mount at the front was interfering with the curvature of
the fender. I eventually had to re-bend the struts and raise the rack
a bit. Let me know if you need some pictures. I can try to take a
few when I get some time.
