Drive up from Los Angeles and made my first trip up to the RivHQ this weekend. Great guys. They let me ride just about everything in the shop and complimented my 1984 Univega. Sorry Im horrible with names and can't remember everyone but Joe was awesome. They even gave me a hat and a few Riv readers. I knew I would dig the Hilsen but the speed and solidness of the Atlantis and the Hunga were surprising. Great bikes. Now I just have to sell all my other rides to buy one LOL.

Nice bike, Hugh
The AHH sure was a fun bike to ride. Did you test ride on the trail just down the street? The Iron Horse trail?

I sold my Cervelo R3 carbon bike  in October 2012 so I could afford my dream bike. Can't wait to throw my leg of the AAH and just ride.

Wow, I looked at the picture of this bike on my cell phone earlier and really didn't get a sense of how nice it was until I saw a larger picture. Love that shade of green. Once you get it look me up if you are ever in Burbank. Love to see it in person.

Rene,

Thanks. It's one of the old Hillborne greens. I went back and forth whether to go with the orange or this green I think I made the right decision.

The original green Hillborne was the first Riv I saw physically before I had discovered Rivendell. I fell in love with it! On your Hilsen it looks fantastic. I wonder if my Hunqapillar should be that green instead of pewter... Or silver... Or...

Congratulations again!

When I got my custom ten years or so ago, I had to have a special
blessing and benediction from Fr. Grant to get that color:

 Rene,

Thanks again. I really lamented the desicion as I was originally going to go with the Hillborne orange as I had seen iterations on Eco-velo with honjo hammered fenders I was smitten, then I saw lovely bicycle's green Hillborne with natural Hetres, and this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/29302617@N05/6086785403/ and I just kept going back and staring at it. I particularly liked the smooth chrome fenders. I've seen another Homer painted champagne and it has an understated beauty. Let me know which color you go with? Oh since I never saw the green Hillborne in person I'm not sure if it has and metallic flake in it? I did think to make that a point as it would sparkle when the sun shined on it, I think I'll be pretty happy with my new Homer.

Cheers,

There is always the thanks we owe to the ground breakers, so thanks and your custom looks great especially good cloaked in those low hanging clouds and green hills. I think the cows are a bit envious though.

This didn't go through yesterday for some reason. Re-posting:
Hugh,
To answer what I'm using as my main bike right now, I have a Pashley Guvnor http://www.pashley.co.uk/products/guvnor.html
Really cool bike and very fun to ride. Hate to get rid of it but that's about the only way I could swing an AHH. I work in town and I use it to commute. Also have a 1984 Univega that has been restored and it's a good bike for trips to the store and whatnot. It's a good frame with a patchwork of so so components. I could spend some money making that my Riv and no doubt that would be the cost-effective and sensible route but I know that I'll still pine for the real deal. If I look at a bike and I smile every time I see it, that's how I know it's for me. That's with Rivendells do for me. They make me smile and want to drop whatever I'm doing and ride.

Yeah that black AHH is really cool but yours with the white tires is magnificent.  Excellent taste. Do they sell those tires? I didn't see them on their page.
Actually I would like a build pretty much like yours sans fenders. But I kinda like the old Hunga colors on an AHH, that might look really cool.

Chris,

I agree the old Hunga colors are amazing,  I really like a paint job with lug lining. That Pashley is beautiful, and reasonably priced. I will probably myself look for an old steel framed bike as a back up like a Trek or Univega at some point, I of course have to get that passed by my better half. I purchased the tires from http://www.compasscycle.com/tires.html. Thanks for the compliment I scoured Flicker for what I thought looked good and this is what I came up with, though I'll probably buy another set of tires so I have some research to do. As far as sensible goes life is short and wanting a really great bicycle that get's you out of a car, and has health benefits is a small price to pay, of course being financially responsible is important too:) I smile every time I look at a Riv bicycle. Don't know if you saw my post about where I live? I'm up in Sunland, not too far from Big Tungunja Canyon.

Let me know when you'd like to do a short ride. I'm out of shape since I've been off a bike for a while.

Cheers,

Hugh

I'm not usually a huge fan of green bikes but that metallic shade is sharp!  Enjoy it.

That is a fantastic looking bike and not just the color. Nice simple
set-up, bars and seat level....

Well done.

Hugh,
A ride through the canyon sounds great. I will probably have to wait till I have something that can keep up with you. Something tells me my three-speed Pashley will not match you on the climbs. You are right, life is short. Unfortunately I wheel out that gem of a platitude every time I find a bike I want to buy :) but in this particular case the AHH is about to go up so it just makes perfect sense to buy now right? Who's with me? Ah my kingdom for an enabler.
