The month of May has been sunny and warm in Seattle so far, but today was the first rainy commute, so I got to try out the final build on the new Hunqa.  I have Sykes wood fenders on it, and wanted to see how effective they were.  These are flat wood fenders that are 2" wide, so they cover the 700x50 Marathon Duremes just fine.  After some rain and puddles, the verdict is that they do pretty well.  I didn't get much wetter than usual (honjos on the other bike), but noticed a bit more water hitting my feet.  My shoes were only slightly damp on the outside when I got to work - not soaking like I am with another bike with too-short fenders.  These guys go down far enough, and I have a wider mudflap on them to minimize the low spray.  The bike wiped off clean at work, so not much road grime ever made it past the fenders.  One nice benefit - you can easily wipe off the inside of the fenders if you want.  Good stuff!  Pics to prove it - the ride home was a dryer one, so I got to take some photos...
