Hi rorosyd peeps,

As I mentioned on Tuesday night at rorosyd, we're looking to lock in some talks early for next month's meetup on October 9.

Thanks to James Sadler, who has set the example and already volunteered to talk about AngularJS!

That leaves room for another 15 minute presentation and three lightning talks.

If you have something to share, just suggest your talk on this thread so that others can +1 it.  Remember, a lightning talk is a great opportunity to try speaking if you haven't presented before.  If you're thinking about presenting but still unsure, feel free to contact me off list.

Cheers,
Keith

I can do a 15-minuter on testing light-on-Ruby, heavy-on-JS apps with Mocha and Sinon if anyone's interested. :)

I'm interested! Do you have an app in the app store?

Would love to hear about more than just the standard getting started guide. Eg. Cocoa Wrappers, project organisation, pods and comparison with traditional iOS App workflows.

Would anyone be interested in a talk on Rails security? Phil has been
busy breaking PHP apps for a while, and is keen to do the same for
Rails apps if anyone's interested.

(Obviously, you can reverse this in your mind to be "How to stop Phil
cracking open my apps like a zombie feasting on your delicious
headmeats")

cheers

A UNIX signature isn't a return address, it's the ASCII equivalent of a
black velvet clown painting. It's a rectangle of carets surrounding a
quote from a literary giant of weeniedom like Heinlein or Dr. Who.

Yes.  That sounds awesome.  Needs more than brakeman (& rails_best_practices) though - that was covered recently.

Cheers,

Hi Mark,

Sounds awesome. Please put it down on https://github.com/rails-oceania/roro/wiki/rorosyd-topics

Who / what's Phil?

Thanks for stepping up.

And that brings us to 3 talks lined up so far :-)

Shouldn't you be updating the Ruby Australia website instead of maintaining two sites?

It's unfortunately an awfully clumsy process at the moment for a speaker to put their talk up when given the go-ahead:

Fork => Clone => Bundler => Edit => Build => Deploy => Pull Request ( => Merge => Deploy)

Is there anything we can do to reduce the friction? Maybe we could have something either automatically pull and rebuild from the wiki (a bit risky), or can be kicked off with a button press / rake task by the admin?

I may just be off my rocker here. If this isn't a nuts idea, though, I'd like to have a crack at the latter.

(I've intentionally avoided suggesting that the admin be the only person to manually add speakers to the site so as to avoid log-jams. If it's in the wiki, the information will at least be accessible somewhere.)

This might be useful to whom ever is giving the security talk...

It's a link to a side deck from a talk given at Sydney's Ruxmon user group earlier in the year:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1WEP9-8E0TkjbtHnrDkUr5ubthL9ItJ2KA7ZG0I19FSA/edit?pli=1#slide=id.p

I found it pretty interesting. It would be good if some of the items raised could be examined... Perhaps some items have been patched in the interim?

Hi Michael,

That would be great. Either a lightning talk or longer will be fine.

Now to run off and freak out about putting the presentation together

Hi All,

Next week is Rorosyd time again! After being away for two meetups I am glad to be back. Thanks heaps to Michael Lindsaar for helping out.

Tuesday October 9th, 6:30 for a 7pm start at
Trinity Bar in Surry Hills: http://tinyurl.com/6emfna

We have four great talks lined up. Thanks to those who have volunteered :-)

Also note the 2012 Rails Rumble http://railsrumble.com/ is open for entries until 7 October, and the even will run on 13 - 14 October.

If anyone local is organising or competing and wants to chat about it at the meetup (or before), that would be cool.

See you then!

Cheers,

Steve

The show and tell session is always open, right? I came across
something during Cake Driven Development with Minami.rb.
