Don't blame him, really.

I google "melbourne ruby group" and I get, in order:
Similar results for "melbourne ruby meetup"

Did anybody at RailsCamp end up implementing a new RORO website?

Mmm. We were talking about this at work yesterday. As a group we are failing to internet properly. :)

I believe ruby.org.au is a work in progress, which will be really good. The most immediate step, though, is for us to post to rubyonrails.com.au.

Who should I talk to about posting announcements for the Melb meetups?

Ben H,

I can give you access to the git repo we use as an interim measure. We took an HTML snapshot of the old site and stuck it in git. We then publish that to github pages. Its not the best, but it works until the new site comes up.

Apparently Ben Schwarz had organised a team of peeps to work on it, and didn't need any more help when it was offered. Perhaps Ben S can give us an update?

Thanks,

Steve

I just added the wrong Ben to the org, so I figured I'd follow up and add the Ben's that immediately come to mind.  Also, feel free to publicise your membership so that people know who to contact.

The repo for rubyonrails.com.au is here: g...@github.com:rails-oceania/rails-oceania.github.com.git

Anyone else want to be added to the rails-oceania org while I'm at it?

Cheers,
Tim

Thanks Tim.

If you guys need some help with it give me a shout. Its just a snapshot of the generated HTML of the old Mephisto (I think) site that was on the servers at Segpub. Its a bit manual to update, but does the job.

Hi All,

A quick update from me:
  • Aaron Moodie is going to be designing a logo for Ruby Australia (and I'll be meeting with him again soon)
  • Ivan V, Lincoln S, David G and myself are going to be building a first draft web site at our nearest convenience, I'll be kicking that conversation along next week.
  • I tweeted (https://twitter.com/benschwarz/status/171363139437334528) to the organiser of that group, but did not hear back
More, as it comes.

I also used to think the Melbourne Ruby community was lifeless when I saw the web site, luckily for me I knew a Ruby dev who told me about the mailing-list.

FYI other developer community (.net) are equally lax in maintaining their community web-sites, some more than others, so you are in good company; or are you. :-)

Does anyone know anyone at 99 Designs who might be able to wrangle up
a sponsorship of a free website and logo design competition?

If we ran a 99 Designs competition, the top designs could be opened up
for a poll and the entire RORO group could vote on favourites (a 99
designs feature). I guess if nothing else, it would make everyone
feel more involved.

It would still have to be built, you just end up with photoshop from
99 Designs.

Clearly only a feasible idea if they will give it to us for free, and
I mention it because they are a Melbourne company (with a dev meet up
at their offices next Wed) who might appreciate the chance for some
good publicity with exactly the crowd that they want good publicity
with.

Just to be clear, Ben Schwarz et al are working on a new website… it's just a matter of being patient (or possibly hassling him) until it's ready.

For those who aren't aware, Ben and others put their hands up to do this at the most recent Australian Rails Camp, as part of the Ruby Australia discussion/meeting.

Cheers

Further to what Pat said, the expectation set at the Ruby Australia general meeting at Railscamp X was to have the initial ruby.org.au site up within two months.

Having spoken with Ben earlier this week, I know that his team is still aiming to have the site up by mid-March. If this changes, Ben or I will let you know.

Cheers,
Keith (alias El Presidente)

Further to Pat's comments. Don't hassle me. :-)

We've got a team together and we'll be executing the first round site.
It'll be hosted on github pages. We'll be getting the details together and posting them to the list shortly.

… We won't be using 99designs and we won't be doing design by committee either.
