I reported on twitter that my Thinkpad x230 with a recent build of
coreboot (from git head) appears to support DMAR and the IOMMU is
configured with Qubes 3.1. Unlike Lovecroft's report on issue 1594,
my system boots reliably, although I posted the to the coreboot list
regarding a video glitch during bootup:

https://www.coreboot.org/pipermail/coreboot/2016-July/081726.html

Here are the hcl report and dmesg output.

Hi, thanks for sharing.

After a quick grep through the commits, it seems like the DMAR was already there
since Oct 2015, but was broken for many platforms until this commit from March:

https://github.com/coreboot/coreboot/commit/f3f654ddb90fedfb72eab99db6f9893e898ffbff

Also, a quick grep inside src/northbridge/intel suggests coreboot implements
DMAR only for sandybridge/ivebridge platforms. Are there any plans to change
that anytime soon? CCing coreboot ML.

One question out of curiosity: how did you verify the authenticity/integrity of
your coreboot clone? I just cloned the repo also, but I see 1) no signed tags,
nor 2) signed commits?

Thanks,
joanna.

That's a good question. I've also built the CoreBoot 4.4
release and verified their signature on the tar file, but
that doesn't mean the tree is unmodified.

In better news, I have figured out why Xen won't start from
kexec on a Linux CoreBoot payload. Sometime between 3.1.0
and 3.1.3 they added numerous dependencies on the BIOS and
EBDA structures for initializing the VGA console as well as
figuring out where to stash pre-boot data.

I forward ported the 3.1.0 xen/drivers/video/vga.c to 4.6.3
and modified xen/arch/x86/boot/trampoline.S to not make any
real mode calls, and modified xen/arch/x86/boot/head.S to
use the Multiboot lower memory pointer for the trampoline
segment.

Now my x230 boots Coreboot, which starts the Linux payload,
which will be able to bring up the TPM and establish the
root of trust from inside the ROM, authenticate to the
user via tpmtotp, unseal the disk encryption keys, measure
the Xen payload and configuration before calling kexec()
on it, etc.

I've posted patches to the Xen mailing list, but don't have high hopes
that it will be accepted until someone hits the bug more than once
per decade:

https://lists.xenproject.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2016-08/msg01195.html

The vga changes might not be required, only the EBDA ones, since
Qubes doesn't use the Xen VGA console. I haven't rebuilt that
part of the system recently to test it.

I've also submitted an additional patch to make the builds more
reproducible, which will hopefully show up soon:

https://lists.xenproject.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2016-08/msg01301.html
