Brooklyn Queens Connector

Earlier this year, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the Brooklyn Queens Connector, a proposed modern streetcar that will run along the Brooklyn and Queens waterfronts, improving mass transit and connectivity in neighborhoods from Sunset Park to Astoria. Pentagram’s Paula Scher and her team have designed the identity, website and visual system for the proposal and for Friends of the Brooklyn Queens Connector, the not-for-profit organization that is supporting the City's efforts to make the streetcar a reality. The logo incorporates a segmented arrow and “X” that come together to suggest connection, speed and efficiency.

Sujit,

Very interesting, took a quick look.
For those who dont know, a US streetcar = the British tram...

Some comparative numbers, gleaned from wikipedia articles. May be in error, also some data may be older.

The BQX streetcar when finished, will carry 50,000 people per day (or trips? Not clear) on a sinle, 16 mile route.
In comparison, Mumbai metro elevated line1 (Ghatkoper Versova) capacity:260,000
PMPML: 80000 per day
Mumbai subueban rail network: 75 lac (per day!!!!!)
Pune BRT: not clear, can someone post per line capacity stat?

The issue is, can a high speed at-grade tram be a more cost effective and quicker option for Pune??
At least on some routes??
Space requirement may be similar or even a bit less than BRT...

Rgds,

Anil Risbud
