Hi EZ,

I'm forwarding your message onto the PublicLab spectrometry mailing lists. The PublicLab Infragram camera is indeed making use of the IR light sensing capabilities of digital cameras, although I'm not sure if any similar plans exist for spectrometry. If the IR filter is removed from a camera and the CCD can pick up IR, then the red channel should pick up IR bands separated by the grating.

Perhaps the community has already begun thinking about this or experimenting with it.

Hi,

I was wondering if your project will ever include near infrared spectroscopy.  I heard about it being used to identify different plastics for recycling programs which seems close to what you are trying to accomplish.  From what I understand normal digital cameras have the ability to sense infra red light so it might be doable with the equipment you are currently using.  Give it some thought please.

Thanks,

EZ

Yes, our Desktop Spectrometer has its infrared block filter removed and you can record data up past 900nm, possibly as high as 1000nm.

Thanks, Evan! If you do something related to recycling, consider posting on the PublicLab.org site!
