(bumping this to the spectrometry list)

Hi, Alex - what would you want to trigger the capture? We could hook it up to a keyboard key, like the spacebar, or something? Or would it trigger on most brightness? The other thing is that in the live capture, you have a few seconds of the history in the image, so you don't have to be too fast -- you can select a lower cross-section later.

For regular capturing, yes -- there's macro code for that here: https://publiclab.org/wiki/spectral-workbench-api#Submitting+spectra+via+POST+request

But please go easy -- we do offer this hosting free to the community, but if you capture every second, you'll fill up our servers pretty fast :-)

Hi,

- With regards to flame emission spectroscopy using the desktop spectrometry kit 3.0, I require the software to record/ capture the emission spectrum of a flame, which is the result of a combustion reaction. This reaction will last for only less than 1 second. Therefore the capture/ acquisition has to be triggered very quick, and possibly automatically. Could you kindly advise me on how I could achieve that using the Desktop Spectrometry Kit 3.0 and your software?

- Is it possible to have the software perform captures at certain frequencies over a set period of time? Or is this basically achieved by the live spectra capture function?

Thank you very much.

Jeff,

I think Alex wants to begin an image capture when the background level flares; when he sets off his flame. Either that or run a continuous 'video' capture, and ignore all the parts except for the flame. I'm not sure if this is possible with the spectral software.

I know such a thing can be done with the Canon Hack Development Kit (CHDK) software and Canon cameras; some photographers use it for capturing lightning strikes.

I don't think he's trying to upload it automatically with a macro.

Ah, i understand, then. Perhaps a listener to poll the exposure at a given wavelength every 1/10 of a second, and trigger a save when it passes a given threshold? Would that work? That'd be pretty easy to do.
