News and links of interest:

On Wednesday morning in Central Park it rained about a quarter of an inch. It rained a bit more in other parts of the city, but still--one would hope that, 24 hours later, a few more places in the harbor would have recovered.

What are you going to do about it?

One possibility: attend the Flushing Waterways Community Visioning Workshop on June 23, 2017 from 6-8PM at the Queens Museum. Participants will learn about the Flushing 'sewershed' and its Long Term Control Plan (what the city is proposing to do to address sewage overflows) and have the opportunity to engage in discussions about access, waterfront design, infrastructure improvements, and more. Free and open to all; RSVP here.

The Gowanus Dredgers, one of the city's pioneering community boathouses, have a fantastic new waterfront space at the foot of Second Street:

Want to get involved, or just take out a canoe? More info here: http://www.gowanuscanal.org/

What do you do with 5000 old toilets?

Maria Shapiro samples just down the river at Dumbo Cove, where the water looked good (and tested well) on Thursday.

Kurt Nelson samples at Pier 66, home of New York Outrigger and a sleeping duck.

Josh Vogel samples at the Pier 2 kayak dock, home base for the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse.

Josh also samples at Pier 4, where this got pulled out of the water on Thursday.

Finally, if you're mystified by the currents in New York Harbor (which do not directly align with the tides), let us know and we'll mail you a free tide wheel--a very handy tool for calculating 'tidal current lag.'

Let us know if any questions or if you want to unsubscribe, otherwise see you next week!
