Automated particle counting with Image J?

has anyone used the particle sizing and counting functions in ImageJ or Fiji?

I'm interested in using it to automatically count particles after a scan of a passive aerosol sampler's collection plate:

I've investigated it before when I picked up an academic project that
was using it, but ended up coding custom software using
openCV. Python has openCV bindings these days which are absolutely excellent.
