LPBF is hosting two events at the new Bayou St. John Urban
Marsh in mid-October. Construction is complete and the grasses planted this
spring are thriving. It’s time to dedicate the marsh to the people of the Gulf
Coast and shift our energy to long-term maintenance and monitoring.
Saturday, October 11th, 9 to noon, will be the first “Second Saturday Work and Learn” at the Urban Marsh. On the second Saturday of every month, volunteers are invited to help with trash pickup and seasonal planting, maintenance and monitoring. LPBF scientists or other coastal experts will lead educational talks and hands-on projects about natural and cultural history. https://www.facebook.com/events/787788574610551/
Tuesday October 14th, LPBF will host a ceremony to dedicate the newly built marsh to the people of New Orleans. We will gather at 9 am to launch canoes and kayaks. At 10 the press and public are invited to a short presentation to highlight the benefits of New Orleans’ newest natural resource. Around 10:30, a boat parade will conclude the ceremony and open the marsh for fishing, birding and nature recreation. LPBF biologists will be on hand until noon to give boat tours of the man-made marsh. https://www.facebook.com/events/1560829424137048/
