Dorothy C. ‘Dottie’ Meyerhofer
Jan. 27, 1922-Jan. 30, 2011
Dorothy C. Meyerhofer, 89, of Hamilton passed away Sunday, Jan. 30,
2011, at her home.
Dottie was born in Simi Valley, Calif., and attended school in
Moorpark, Calif.
In 1940, she married Earl M. Strong and had two children, Mel and
Sandee.
Earl and Dottie later followed separate paths, and in May 1961, she
married the love of her life, Jack E. "Sam" Meyerhofer. Sam was a
pilot for Western Airlines. They maintained homes in Washington,
California, Hawaii and Montana so Dottie could remain close.
Upon retirement they moved to Polson, where they owned a home on the
East Shore of Flathead Lake. Here they enjoyed life - sailing,
fishing, gardening and creating wonderful memories with family and
friends. Jack passed away in 2000, and a few years later Dottie moved
to Hamilton to be closer to family, spending summers at the lake
house.
Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Meyerhofer; her
parents Arthur and Rose Buchheim; her children's father, Earl M.
Strong; sisters Fran Harvey, Edna Thurman, Jerry Churchman and May
Gates; and her brother, Howard Buchheim.
She is survived by her son Mel Strong and wife Donna of Hamilton;
daughter, Sandee Skelton also of Hamilton; stepson Robert Meyerhofer
and wife Jeani of Lancaster Calif.; sister Fay Vendella of Prescott,
Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-
grandchildren and Chico, her loving cat.
A celebration of Dottie's life will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 12,
at her home in Hamilton. Condolences may be left for the family at
www.dalyleachchapel.com
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Oakwood
Memorial Park in Chatsworth, Calif., where Sam rests. As he always
said over their evening wine, "Here's to Dottie."
