Hi all,
On Monday, Feb. 8th, Matt will run an evening of digital art by hardware hackers, showcasing all the beauty and trickiness possible on ancient hardware. Come have a look, description below.
The Demo Scene: The Biggest Digital Art Movement You've Never Heard Of
Throughout the year, hundreds of digital art enthusiasts convene at
festivals across Europe (and beyond) to present their latest creations.
These creations, known as 'demos', are computer programs that generate
audio-visual animations, similar in format to music videos. It's a
discipline that combines art with algorithms, graphic design with music,
collaboration with competition, cutting-edge technology with retro
hardware, and cinema with counter-culture - and yet, for all its
creative output, it remains doggedly underground and little-known even
to the rest of the hacker world. Matt Westcott will lift the lid on the
creations, customs and history of the demo scene, and show off some of
the most notable eye- (and ear-) candy created by the community.
Hope to see you there,
Lauren
