Result of the Almonte 15 k Time Trial Clayton Rd Aug 20th
A warm sunny evening brought 6 riders to the line. A light headwind on the return leg denied any prospects for PBs but in his first ride on this course, Denis Berthelot posted an excellent 28 minute performance. Denis is the first minime on this course since Alex Cataford and his ride augurs well for the future.

Aaron finished over 3 minutes clear of second finisher, Mike Nash. Today's event was graced by the best female showing of the season, led by Jazmine Lavergne, who emerged over a minute clear of second placed Erica Ravecz.

Here's wishing all time testers a welcome to 2020 and a new
cycling season.
I know it's a little early to talk about riding but I want to make sure that I'm getting the right dates.
Last year we hosted 5 40k events. This year, I'm proposing only four, dropping the early June event and running one at the end of month in June, July and August, with a final 40 mid September.
Dates proposed are Sundays : Jun 28, July 26, Aug 23, Sep 13
As regards the Almonte area 15s, numbers have been disappointing, with only two events running with more than 5 riders. I'm wondering whether we should pick another day, another route or just limit the number of rides by skipping a month or running every other week.
All this to say that over and above riders, we need volunteers to run the event successfully, especially the 40ks. So I'll be looking for two at the start and at least one at the turn, so don't be shy. worst case scenario is that someone may have to give up a ride.
I would appreciate it if those who plan to participate this year get back to me to confirm their support, indicating whether it be 15, 40 or both.

Hi Cheryl, I get that. The Chelsea CLM had over 90 riders last summer. I think advanced online registration makes people more likely to show up in crappy weather. That said, I love what you are doing and try to support your events whenever my schedule permits.Best regardsChrisOn Jan 2, 2020, at 10:00 PM, cheryl levi <chery...@gmail.com> wrote:Chris, if it only one 40 km TT and the weather is lousy then fewer people would be riding it and getting volunteers might be more difficult. I understand from a planning perspective about an "event", however I thought most riders train for every TT like it's an event.Moving the 40 k TTs toward the end of each of the 4 months gives everyone time to work toward it.On Thu., Jan. 2, 2020, 20:09 Chris Mullington, <ch...@tvfactory.tv> wrote:Thanks Les,I really appreciate all the work that you and your western buddies do to organize these events. Maybe it might be better to do just one really killer 40k with more publicity and a trophy? I will help with a poster if you like. This might inspire people to train and make it a destination. It also might make other less important events on the same course more attractive.I say this with the utmost respect. I know that as a person with family obligations, if I can justify an event as part of a “plan” I can argue for this time in the greater context of other just as important, family events.ChrisOn Jan 2, 2020, at 11:56 AM, Les Humphreys <les...@magma.ca> wrote:

Hi Les and all,I think the effort going in is quite impressive and I am going to try to attend more ABC events as my schedule allows this season. The courses are great and I really like the low stress feel of the events. If I did have one area of improvement that I could offer: on the website, if you could add a tab to the menu that linked to a simple page with the TT information that would be most helpful. As a sporadic attender I do go to the webpage often as I always forget what time it starts and who to email in the case of the 40k. It is a simple process but the information does take a bit of digging.Hoping to see you all a few times this summer!ShawnOn Wed, Jan 8, 2020 at 10:28 AM thomas.kemp <kem...@sympatico.ca> wrote:Thanks for your organization Les.I’m game for as many of the 40’s and 15’s as I can fit in. I’ll be volunteering as well.To get the volunteers riding too, I suggest that criteria for the Best All Round Rider award (BAR) for the Almonte Area Time Trials include, as presently (best 3x15 TT together with best 1x40 TT) plus having volunteered at one (minimum) of the 15’s or 40’s in a role that supports the actual riding: start/finish, or turn around. That way the long patient volunteers have chances to ride some events as well, and riders can help with record keeping, handing out and collecting numbers. The dates work as you suggest.Tom KempOn Jan 7, 2020, at 12:24 PM, Neil Farish <neil....@outlook.com> wrote:Hi Les,
My two cents, as I will be riding again this year, and I will be riding TTs again after a multi-year break, I stopped TTs as I was little burnt out from riding both OBC and ABC TTs, and having helped run the OBC 15k TTs and the OBC 40k TTs for more than a couple of years – and the lack of riding in general, well – that just seemed to stop on it’s own !
40k TTs
I think your suggestion to have 4 of them makes sense, especially as weather can cancel one of them, and I think your dates are good, knowing them in advance can help people plan for them.
In terms of volunteering, I will help as you know I have in the past, either Dianne or I will volunteer for one of the 40 K TTs, the other one of us can ride it, we hope to get to more than one 40k TT this year.
15k TTs
I think sticking to the same Tuesday night suits the vast majority of actual TT riders, it has worked for a long time, highly unlikely another day would bring more riders, I think it would bring less.
One thought is to start a little later in the season, maybe skip the first 2 or 3 in May, and skip the last 1 or 2 in September, might help push folks to go to the ones that are held, it might help reduce the demand for volunteers as well.
I think the TT riders are the TT riders, I don’t really know of may TT riders that have a mental debate with themselves about riding a TT versus an OBC Tuesday night ride, a Tuesday Night Crit, a Bushtukah ride or a Ottawa Mountain Bike rides.
I think many TTs in many places are challenged for numbers, many people’s lives are busier than they used to be, and traffic is significantly worse than several years ago - I don't think it is other events on a Tuesday night that are impacting the turnout.
Anyhow, just my 2 cents….
Really appreciate all that the ABC folks and others do for TT’s
Cheers Neil
