I
was cycling in Scotland and a doctor on this ride with me pointed out a
very small spot on the side of my nose, He told me to have it checked
out as soon as I got home. I went to a clinic here in Havana and was
told that I have a form of cancer and needed to have it removed. This
was done rather rapidly (within days ). Once all was healed, I returned
to the clinic and was diagnosed with another form of cancer. This new
form was not operable, there was an experimental treatment and I was
offered a place in a group of 240 volunteers in Cuba. I was advised that
it would be painful and it was! Twice a week I'd go to the clinic and
an intern from Mexico would inject a cocktail of two types of interferon
into my smooze, usually 5 shots per session, it was so painful I would
lose count. At one point the doctor showed me the results of his work, a
bright green small pea-like piece had been pushed out of my skin. I
think the treatment went on for 6 weeks and I was discharged as a
successful case. With mental pictures of Endmond Hillary wearing a nose
guard on Everest, I thought I would easily find such a nose guard.
wrong! My son eventually found something on the web at Nazkon.com. One
size fits all, just cut to size and loop it over the bridge of your
sunglasses. Now worried about the rest of my noggin, I did some research
about sun screen and read that anything claiming to be over 60 SPF was a
bogus claim, so I stuck with 60 from Neutrogena. That was my choice
until I spotted Neutrogena 100+ in a pharmacy in Miami. My thought was
it is possibly a lie but I am having that. You need to replenish every
80 minutes, a habit I have not conformed with, it is not easy to be
fixing your makeup while on a ride.
I never go on a longish ride without the nose guard.
