I just noticed OsmAnd is no longer available from Google Play. Will it be back?

Shortly said: .... Osmand should be available back as soon as possible.

The process of removal has been cancelled today, due to the fact that between both parties there has been some sort of consent if not 100% to the state of the original agreement for collaboration back in 2011.

Motives for the previous removal is the licensing of part of the copyrighted work (product logos, UI elements) without the knowledge and agreement of the author.
Main agreement included a permanent engagement into the project in exchange for a certain % share on the donations/income from the project and a passive access to view the amounts of donations in order to be fair and transparent with the collaborator on how the project evolves.
What was breached was the denial of the transparency on what and how much the actual income from donations/sales are, a week ago.
That fact made the awaited shares unpredictable and not transparent any more.

The replacement of the original graphics had been promised to be done 4 months ago by sharing the agreed % of the project´s income until that is done fully.
4 months later, no graphics had been changed officially, the promised % was balanced monthly, but the passive access to the income channel was cut off.

These are the facts around the management issues.
Hopefully all understand that such complaints, removal requests and publications are one of the last possibilities to find a fair solution, when the counter part refuses to communicate.

Best regards

Anyway, is there any plan to create graphics more open-sourcely, say, in CC-BY-SA ?

And once it DOES come back, if I bought OsmAnd+ on play, and now have a new phone, do I have to buy it again??
Can I install OsmAnd (or my paid for OsmAnd+) from anyplace else while it is un-accessible from Play?

...I actually bought osmand+, just got a new phone and now cannot download the program anymore :-((
It kind of doesn't feel very good.
I think it highlights a major downside of these "cloud shop solutions". Maybe online shops should be forced to allow customers to at least download an apk of every app they buy at the moment (and the version) of purchase...

... crap, I'm trolling.

Anyway, I hope there's gonna be a solution soon, as I need a reliable offline map in a week and I don't really want to spend time looking for alternatives :-/

Most annoying is that you don't find an 'official' note on the osmand home page. There should be an official statement, plus maybe a tutorial for workaround for installing the recently bought osmand+ version on a new android device for the time it is not available on google play.

Can you explain to me how that works?
I will visit Rom in 2 weeks and want to install it for the first time.
What do I have to download?
net.osmand-1.1.4 beta-120.apk
or
net.osmand-1.1.4 beta-120-bk.bar
or both?

Thanks

I still hope that I can just do it with Google Play in a few days.

I would like to know the answer to this too.

I deleted OsmAnd+ from my tablet in an attempt to clean it up but then found I cannot re-install it from Google Play.

I have just installed net.osmand-1.1.3 beta-116.apk from http://download.osmand.net/releases/ but this is only the free version with all its limitations.

.apk is for android, .bar is for Blackberry, you only need to have one.

For you "emergencies"  (Android) I suggest http://download.osmand.net/night-builds/OsmAnd-master-nb-2013-02-16.apk, it is fairly close to the one which unfortunately dissappeared from google Play.

I was very surprised that my OsmAnd+ App just disappere. Then on the OsmAnd Webpage no intformation at all, for some days...

I really like to support projects like OsmAnd, but here I wonder myself how I or somebody else can trust such developers and apps.
Did they care about the users ? Whey is it that difficult to get informations? What's next? How long can we expect that the app remain available?
Will they give the users any information if any other problem will occur? Currently all users must expect that the app can dissepear from one moment to the next, without any message - for example just while the users are driving in the car and use the app.

So now I just try out for example Sygic, TomTom, Navigon. I need a software which works and is reliable, both is important.

OK, you worry, but imagine what will happen if Osmand would disappear completely (which seems unlikely at this moment).
As it is an open source project, any other developer could rebuild the app from the existing code and publish it as long as it is published under the same license.
Even the maps could be offered in about the same way, thanks to Osmandmapcreator.
On the other hand, the alternatives you are trying now, are NOT open source, so if e.g. Sygic goes bankrupt, they might take the software with them in their grave; Good bye dear customer!
Open source software has proven to be quite reliable in terms of continuity.
But I agree with you, there could have been more information in an early stage of this problem.

As the actual developer could, or actually and most probably will.

I have no problem with APK except that it does not handle version updates which is a PITA.

Sygic maps do not quite often get updated, to put it nicely.
