At long last (and sorry for the delay), I have branched OSL RB-1.6 and tagged "Release-1.6.4beta".

You can browse release notes that detail what's changed compared to the 1.5 release here:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/imageworks/OpenShadingLanguage/RB-1.6/CHANGES

This should be a short beta. At SPI we've been building for our production renderer straight out of the master branch, so I'm very confident about its stability and performance. Hopefully in fairly short order we'll call it a "release candidate", and then have a proper final release.

From here on out, anything that breaks API backward compatibility or poses a stability risk will go only into the master branch (which will eventually form the basis for 1.7), while of course bug fixes or low-risk performance improvements will be propagated to the RB-1.6 branch as well. This will allow studios or products that want a locked API to use the stable RB-1.6 branch, while those who prefer to get the latest improvements immediately, albeit at the cost of occasional compatibility breaks, may use the master.
