Thanks for your votes everyone---please keep ‘em coming (one more day)! With regard to the venue feedback question, I should clarify that for a place like Airlie which is off the beaten path, OSI would provide bus/shuttle service to and from. You wouldn’t need to rent a car.

Thanks again,

Glenn

Subject: OSI2018 venue
Importance: High

Hi Folks,

--submitting this to everyone for your consideration. First, please do complete this survey (if you haven’t already) and indicate whether you might attend OSI2018 next Spring:

We need to get above a certain threshold before committing to a meeting space.

Second, hypothetically, what meeting space do you think would be best? Here are the general choices that the planning group has been considering:

  1. A DC-area conference hotel like the Omni Shoreham or something in Tysons or Crystal City---just have the whole event self-contained in one venue that’s easy to get to/from (or at least on the Metro)
  2. A university campus/hotel hybrid like we’ve done in the past. This option lowers our financial risk because we don’t need to block a large number of hotel rooms, and it also reinforces our effort’s connection with academia and gives universities an opportunity to contribute in a big way (universities can engage regardless of venue, of course---the campus setting just makes it easier to do so)
  3. A resort setting like Airlie (www.airlie.com), which is 45 minutes west of Dulles (DC is 45 minutes east). This setting is not conveniently located to the Metro. However, it’s a self-contained venue that provides the opportunity for more, and more continuous engagement, and in a setting that’s maybe more amenable to conversation than hotel lobbies and buses. OSI delegates would be the only ones there. In terms of cost, it’s cheaper than the above two options---for delegates, rooms are $300/night but food and conference fees are included (so no registration fee would be required)---but the risk is higher if we don’t fully book the space (about 150 participants need to commit).

So, after you’ve taken the survey about whether you’ll attend this meeting, please take this one too and give our planning group some feedback on what you think about where to meet (just indicate your favorite option):

Thanks!
