Hi All,

Schools for Climate Action Petition to Educational Leaders

Please consider signing and sharing widely the Schools for Climate Action petition calling on leaders from 3 of the largest educational organizations in the country to pass climate action resolutions just like 23 local school boards have done.

Between them the California State Board of Education, the California School Boards Association, and the National School Boards Association have nearly every school student in the country as their primary or secondary constituent. These leaders have standing to officially call climate change a generational justice issue that Congress has a moral imperative to act on.

Were any of these 3 organizations to pass a climate action resolution, there would likely be hundreds or thousands of the 14,000 local school boards across the country to quickly pass follow-on resolutions. This would generate a massive signal for Congress and help block the logjam on rational national climate policy.

All of these leaders have dedicated much of their professional lives fighting for resources and better conditions for kids. We suspect that they already privately believe that climate change is a generational justice issue and that Congress should act quickly and boldly. By signing and sharing this petition widely, you will help create conditions for these leaders to state publicly and officially what already likely believe privately.

When you sign the petition, please add a comment that lists your school stakeholder status (Ex: 6th grade teacher in Harmony Union School District, 9th grade student at Credo High School school, parent of 2 high school students at Credo High School, grandparent of 3, etc.)

Thanks so much!

Park

*Occupy Sonoma County Climate Declaration*

Occupy Sonoma County, along with concerned, forward thinking people all
over the world, declares that climate change has reached catastrophic
proportions as evidenced by the current level of CO2 in the atmosphere, the
melting of polar ice caps, and the continual rising of global
temperatures. This is a global emergency, and we must act immediately.
We invite all forces of life to join together for our survival. We stand
up for life.

We recognize that the root of climate change is a capitalist system run by
money greedy corporations and the governments that they control. We
actively oppose greenhouse gas producers, nuclear power investors, and
fossil fuel companies by boycotting their products, developing
alternatives, divesting from corporations that endorse them and insisting
that governments at all levels take action. We call on all governments and
corporations to adopt life-sustaining practices immediately.

The people must act now to stop this destruction from continuing and
reverse the damage this has caused. The future is in our hands. We are
the 99%!
