We are very honored to welcome Tom Sgouros
to come speak to our community about public banking. Tom Sgouros is a
public policy researcher and writer. He consults with city, county and
state officials about banking, economics, budgeting, and better ways for
government to manage their citizens’ money.
If
the City of Santa Rosa were to start a public bank, it could help cut
the cost of infrastructure in half, and provide low interest loans –
both desperately needed to rebuild Santa Rosa, build/incentivize
affordable housing, transition to clean energy, address fire resilience
and adapt to climate change in the years to come.
Tom
Sgouros will be giving a general overview of public banking. He will
also discuss how the City of Santa Rosa could partner with the City of
Eureka (both charter cities), to establish a Joint Powers Authority and
implement a public bank together to serve the North Coast region.
* People who want to understand banks,
* Activists determined to change them,
* Reformers seeking to build alternatives.
