Dear Geezers for Greta and friends,

“Despite what American consumer culture has told you — you are not an isolated actor, living in a stable country on a stable planet, whose main purpose in life is to pursue personal success, familial satisfaction, and constant gratification. Rather, you are living in a country, and on a planet, in crisis. Your primary moral responsibility is to fight for your family, your species and all life on earth. You didn’t ask for it, you didn’t cause it, and you probably don’t like it. But here you are.” — Margaret Klein Salamon, co-founder of The Climate Mobilization (TCM)

Here we are.

We face emergencies on every front -- the Climate Emergency, a global pandemic, appalling displays of bigotry, racism, and misogyny, injustices of every stripe and flavor, record-setting wildfires — and what could be the last labored gasps of our fledgling democracy. If Trump remains in power, our last chance for a livable future could go down in flames.

We all need to step up our game.

That’s why I’m asking you to join me on Wednesday Sept. 30th in taking action with the #ItTakesAMovement campaign organized by The Climate Mobilization – because #ItTakesAMovement to make our collective voices heard.

When you register to participate by filling out this form, The Climate Mobilization will contact a copy shop near your house and pay for them to print a color sign that you can pick up at your convenience.

Then, on Wednesday Sept. 30th, you take a photo of yourself holding the sign, alongside someone or something that you care about in your community. This symbolizes what we are fighting for — for each other and our communities.

When you then email or text your picture to The Climate Mobilization, they will post it online with dozens of other photos to make #ItTakesAMovement go viral and kick off the campaign.

I hope you will join me in this.

There’s a lot at stake.

With love,

Pete
