  Dear OpenQuake team,

I'm running OpenQuake 3.1.0 on Ubuntu 16.04. I installed the engine using the repository for Ubuntu.

I've noticed that every time I install OpenQuake using "apt", the engine gets perfectly installed. But the Obspy Seismology Toolbox ("python3-obspy" package, installed independently using "apt" as well) gets uninstalled. Apparently, this has been happening in the most recent versions of the engine (version 3.0.0 and later). I don't remember having this problem before.

Is there any link between Obspy and OpenQuake? I need to have both installed in my computer. Any suggestion?

  Thanks in advance,
  Carlos

Hi Carlos,

you're right. This is not the expected behavior and we'll have a look to our Ubuntu python package to see what's going wrong.

Cheers,
Daniele

As a workaround I would suggest you to uninstall the binary distribution and install the Engine from sources (which is still trivial):

$ sudo apt remove --purge python3-oq.* oq-python.*

and then follow https://github.com/gem/oq-engine/blob/engine-3.1/doc/installing/development.md#ubuntu

Cheers,
Daniele

Hi Carlos,

it was a bug in the package installation that affected installations
where some other packages where installed, python3-tk in your case.
It is already fixed and is following our normal release procedure.
In some hours it will be in our stable launchpad repository.

Thank you for reporting the problem.

  Matteo.

Thank you Daniele and Matteo for your replies!

By the time of this message, the OpenQuake installation using the launchpad repository for Ubuntu still suggests to remove python3-obspy, python3-tk, python3-numpy and other related packages. Eventually the repository will get updated in this regard at some point.

So, for now, what I did was to follow Daniele's advice, installing the Engine from sources, and it worked fine. Now it's installed along with Obspy in my computer.

  Thanks again!
