OpenOLAT 10.5 released

Dear OpenOLAT community

The OpenOLAT 10.5 release is an iterative evolution of the 10.0 release and contains all 9.0.x to 9.4.x and 10.0 to 10.5 bugfix packages. You can download it from here: http://www.openolat.org/downloads.html

The OpenOLAT 10.5 release focus on the topic video and implements many refinements in various aspects of the course engine.

A new course element „video“ and a new main navigation element called „LearnTube“ are the biggest new featured in this release. It makes it easy for authors to upload educational video material and use it across various courses. OpenOLAT offers automatic transcoding and subtitle support. By making the video resources visible to all users in the system, a public video library can be build within your institution. This enables self-study processes for learners. Public videos are listed in the LearnTube section, which look much like the well known YouTube. 

Many smaller and larger improvements and changes have been made to the course, in particular to the course element task, member list and the calendar tool. There are also new configuration option the course such as embedding resource folders as read-only or read/write folders or the visibility of the course menu and the toolbar for simple course scenarios. 

The release does finally switch the notification mails to a HTML based mail scheme. This greatly improves readability of the notification mails and helps skimming for relevant changes. 

On a technical level many software libraries have been updated and the handling of SMTP envelope headers has been adjusted to meet enforced spam-checks that have been introduced by many mail gateways in the past several month. 

The release includes many more features, improvements and important bugfixes, both on user interface and workflow as also on technical,  performance, stability and security level. OpenOLAT 10.5 is the best and most secure OpenOLAT release yet and we recommend installing it as soon as possible for all OLAT and OpenOLAT users.
