Hello everyone

I installed it according to OpenOLAT 15.0 instructions (https://www.openolat.com/fileadmin/adminwiki/_START_.html) but I am unable to access the page at localhost:8088 I get 404 not found error. In addition, there is a lack of files in the "home" directory in the folder of "olatdata". It worked before that I had installed virtual ubuntu 16.04 on my own computer. Now I could not run it on a computer with ubuntu 20 installed.

-jre 8u251

-apach-tomcat-8.5.55

-openolat_1500.w is

-database: MySQL

please help me! :(

you posted the olat.log twice. You seem to not have setup up the database properly. Make sure you created a database with a user that has access, initialized the OpenOlat schema and configured the database connector properly in tomcat.

If you follow the instructions at https://www.openolat.com/fileadmin/adminwiki/_START_.html you will succeed. We recommend using Postgres, not MySQL.

You seem to have running other stuff on your configured ports. In catalina.out you have:

Caused by: java.net.BindException: Address already in use

Don’t configure tomcat on ports that are used by other apps.

Regarding Postgres and Ubuntu: I am sure google can help you with this one. I am not an Ubuntu expert.

What java are you using? Oracle? We recommend AdoptOpenJDK. See https://adoptopenjdk.net/releases.html

E.g. jdk8u252-b09

All in all your OpenOlat can not startup because it has some database problem. I can not tell you why exactly. It has problems initializing the Infinispan cache that is used by hibernate.

Did you change anything in the infinispan config in your olat.local.properties?

Hello

If you changed openolat into your username, does that mean, as username
and path, like /home/username, too? If yes, did you change every path,
not only in the olat.local.properties?

May I ask why there is db.vendor=postgresql when you said, you are using
MySQL? Or is that for _after_ you move to PostgreSQL?

Hello

We recommend you use AdoptOpenJDK because of license issues with Oracle
Java. AdoptOpenJDK offers the same as Oracle apart from a few additions
that are not needed for OpenOlat.

You can chose either as long as you are aware of the license issues.

You can of course change the port as lone as you know what you are
doing. It has to be changed in both, the server.xml and the
olat.local.properties.

It should be as easy as

sudo apt update
sudo apt install postgresql

This should install a postgresql server version 12.2 onto your system.

You should be able to get more help when searching for "postgresql
installation ubuntu 20.04" on the web

If you are fine paying roughly 300$ per CPU per year, then of course you can go with Oracle. Note, you can download Oracle Java for free, but that does not make it legal to run it in production for free. Read the Oracle license carefully.

Do you have any idea about this? Password is requested when I run "psql -h localhost" command,

I write the password but

Look at the postgresql one, search for "Set up postgresql database and
user" and follow the steps described there, maybe adapt names and
passwords to your needs. That should do it.

Hi

When you have a logfile, try reading it. Search for Error and then start reading. It’s all in there:

"Could not load properties; nested exception is java.io.FileNotFoundException: class path resource [olat.local.properties] cannot be opened because it does not exist“

Also try to fix your broken log4j config, this is likely the reason why you don’t have an olat.log

Hello again, is there a problem with the database?

What does the phrase mean? There are currently no "openolat" users in either Ubuntuda or postgresql. Will I create an "openolat" user for Ubuntu or will I create a "openolat" user and an "openolat" database in postgresql?

I saw at https://github.com/grahamito/OpenOLAT-1 that

"Prepare database permissions and initialize the database.

For MySQL: create a user 'openolat' and a database 'openolat'

CREATE DATABASE IF NOT EXISTS openolat;
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON openolat. * TO 'openolat' IDENTIFIED BY 'openolat';
UPDATE mysql.user SET HOST = 'localhost' WHERE USER = 'openolat' AND HOST = '%';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

For PostgreSQL: please check their PostgreSQL manual how to create a user and database. "

I think the official manual is very precise. It says this for the user:

Create a user for OpenOLAT

The username is openolat in this guide with home directory in
/home/openolat/. From here onwards do everything as the user openolat
(unless pointed out differently).

And for the database it says:

Set up postgresql database and user

This setupguide has been tested with all PostgreSQL Versions from 9.1 to
9.4. Our recommendation is to use the most recent, stable version.

Do the following as root user

su - postgres
and then as user postgres (you may need the postgresql db password, but
usually not):
psql

Now while logged in to postgresql, we create the user and the database:
create user oodbu with password 'oodbpasswd';
create database oodb with owner oodbu;

Test the account as openolat user
psql oodb -U oodbu -h localhost

You should get the postgresql client prompt after providing your
password. Now create the OpenOLAT database schema, as user openolat.

psql -h localhost
\i
/home/openolat/webapp/WEB-INF/classes/database/postgresql/setupDatabase.sql

For the first install (unless you are an experienced Linux user with
experience in deployment of applications using tomcat), you should
really stick to the manual found at
https://www.openolat.com/fileadmin/adminwiki/_START_.html. Follow it to
the point, try variations _after_ this setup is working for you.

I know that it is still working fine since I tested it for Ubuntu 20.04
some days ago, it was nothing but a lot of copy and paste to get it running.

You are very interested, thank you very much and you are coming back as soon as possible.

But if you are a little more clear, I will be very happy.

Now, according to the instructions on the Administrator's Wiki page (my user name is openolat in my Ubuntu operating system, openolat), when I run the command "psql -h localhost" while it is in the "openolat" user, it asks me for the password for "openolat". I think it is searching for "openolat" user in postgresql but there is no "openolat" user for postgresql. Likewise, when I switch to "postgres" user, when I run the command "psql -h localhost" again, this time it requests me a password for the "postgres" user. In other words, it is looking for database users in postgresql with the username(openolat or postgres) active in the terminal. Now should I create a user named "openolat" in postgresql?

I hope that is explanatory.

Hello,

maybe there -is- still a little glitch. Try the following command, I
will check it in detail tomorrow when I have more time:

psql oodb -U oodbu -h localhost

Hello, I have reached the login page right now. However, there are warnings in the "catalina.out" and "olat.log" files, albeit less than the previous ones. Do these warnings prevent the system from working?
