OpenOlat Installation using Container? Docker Ansible Vagrant?

Hi There.

We are planning a clean install of OpenOlat and wondering, before we take the plunge, whether any one has had success using some sort of configuration definition system such as Vagrant / Ansible or Docker to create a ready to go olat system?

Sorry, no. We operate many OpenOLAT installations in our own cloud infrastructure and decided against docker et. al. We have a shared file and database service and the OpenOLAT instances are running in their own tomcat instances, this is enough virtualization for us. But you can definitely use one of those systems depending on what you are optimizing.

Thanks for the quick response. Out of interest do you have one tomcot instance per olat instance, and is that how you organize testing and developement etc instances? thanks

Hi Graham,

You're exactly right on this. One Tomcat per OpenOLAT instance. We adapt the
connector port in the server.xml and a webserver is standing "in front" of it,
serving as a proxy.

The webserver is nice to have but no requirement, you can reach the tomcat
servers directly just as good.
