Java version required for latest stable release of OLAT 11.1 ?

HI,
I hope you guys are well.
A couple of questions. It looks like openolat 11.1 is latest stable release.
1) Are there installation instructions for upgrading from 10.x.x to 11.1?
2) What version of java should we be using?
(We have been running Openolat 10.0.4 for a while using java 1.7.0, but when we try to replace the war with the 11.1 war we get
a sad error in our catalina log, and nothing in our standard olat log file, (which usually has olat msgs)
Wondering if this is a java version problem.

Yes, you need Java 8 for OpenOLAT. This is mandatory since 10.4. Upgrade ist straight forward as usual. If you have a large database the upgrade from the 10 to the 11 version can take some time, don’t abort the startup while the upgrader is running, watch the olat.log during upgrade carefully.
