OpenOLAT Installation und Anforderungen an Infrastruktur

Hallo Liste!

Ich versuche gerade auf meinem Rechner zuHause OpenOLAT testweise zu installieren.

Für einen kleinen Verein aus Berlin. https://www.die-lernwerkstatt.org.

Erste Frage: Wenn ich es betreiben will, was brauche ich da an Infrastruktur, für wieviele

Benutzer. Reicht ein x86-PC, oder sollte es was besseres sein. Wie schaut es mit dem

Traffic aus, wie fett sollte die Leitung sein?

Zweitens:

Ich fahre Debian/Bullseye und habe Apache , das JRE11 und tomcat9 installiert.

aus den Repositories. Gesaugt habe ich mir OpenOLAT 14.2.2.

Ich habe zwei Anleitungen gefunden. Eine wobei ein USER openolat angelegt wird und

eine für OpenOLAT 9 und tomcat6 mit mysql und den Paketen der Distro.

Ich habe postgresql installiert und nach der ersten Anlietung eine DB und einen User

angelegt

Das mit dem User funktioniert nicht Out of the Box und die andere Anleitung passt

auch nicht mehr zu meinem tomcat9.

Bei der USER Installation startet auch mein gezogenes Tomcat, aber ich kann keine

Verbindung zum Server aufbauen.

In welche Logs muss ich schauen, um den Fehler zu finden, oder kennt vielleicht jemand

von Euch eine aktuelle Anleitung, oder kann mir anderweitig unter die Arme greifen?

Ich bedanke mich schonmal im voraus für evtl. Antworten, entschuldige mich für die

"etwas" unkonkrete Fragerei und verbleibe

I switch to english because this list is in english.

1) It depends on what you are doing. If you have a lot of large file type of things like videos, VM images (for computer science classes) you might need more bandwidth. It really depends on your content. The application itself does not generate a lot of traffic. Take the content of your course and multiply it by your users, then you see how much space and bandwidth you need. Normally it is a looooot less than you think.

Regarding hardware: again: it depends. You can count with 2MB RAM per concurrent session. If you have 5-600 users that are online at the same time, configure tomcat to have 1 GB RAM. CPU is also important, more is better, but RAM is more important. Prefer higher clocked CPU than having zillions of cores.

2) Use Postgres, not tomcat. I can not say much about the installation script, hopefully someone else will. Have a look at olat.logs and catalina.out.

Dear List,

Thx Florian for giving the hint, that the list is in english. I hope my English will be

understood, 'cause it's very rusty in lack of speeking.

And tried to operate with the first one with postgresql , but without success:

My Installation

OpenOLAT 14.2.2

Apache Bullseye/sid: 2.4.41-4

TomCat Bullseye/sid: 9.0.31-1 and made the Download of tomcat 9.0.33 and installed it in

openolat-Homedirectory
openjdk-11-JRE Bullseye/Sid: 11.06+10.2/ default-jre: 2:1.11.72 same as above with jre 1.8.0_241 (Do I need also JavaDevelmentKit? for work)

The message is "Can't get Connection to http://localhost:8088/, when I have strated tomcat

out of openolat-user-directory. Probably a problem conflicting with the installed tomcat

listening on port 8088. Not starting tomcat in home i have a connestion to tomcat on my

computer, and can log in as admin. But trying this way I couldn't load the .war-Archive.

It just wouldn't load. Don't know why.

I'm sorry, but I don't know where to search.

in ~/logs/catalina.out is:

./tomcat/bin/catalina.sh: 2: eval: -Xss256k: not found

Is this a package I have to install with apt, or what is to do?
