I get an error null when I try to send and invitation from a meeting
room. settings for the invitation are as follows:

email address - some valid email address
message some message
password protected uncheched
valid period endless

if the send button is pushed at this point OM throughs and Error Null
and freezes. The thing that can be done at that point is close it
down and restart.

Which version are you using?

The 1.6 has a new mail handling, so the send mail process cannot crash the hole server process at all.

I've also seen this same problem with a new installation of version
openmeetings_1_6_rc1_r3621.zip.

There must be some kind of error in your log-files then.
Are you able to send invitations at all?
Is this installation a blank installation or kind of an update on a previous install?
