Dear OpenJPEG users,
The project has not been very reactive these last months, although some of
you made very interesting contributions. Hopefully, this situation will
change thanks to 2 good news I'm happy to share with you :
1/ OpenJPEG is currently in the process of becoming official reference
software for JPEG 2000 Part 1 (so this actually concerns only the openjp2
library, together with the opj_compress and opj_decompress executables).
This means that the JPEG Committee would make OpenJPEG its reference
implementation for JPEG 2000 Part 1. Current timeline for approval is Oct
2014. This should lead to higher interest for the project and wider adoption
and usage of OpenJPEG libraries. I'll keep you posted regarding this
process.
2/ A new research project between UCL (Université de Louvain) and intoPIX,
the two historical supports of OpenJPEG, begins this month. OpenJPEG will be
used in this context and should therefore benefit from a better
responsiveness. Practically, a part-time job will be dedicated to the
maintenance of the project. I will send a job description to the list later
this month, don't hesitate to answer it if you're interested.
Cheers,
Antonin
