Hi, I took over the role to trigger/coordinate the activities for Open Data Day Austria 2017. There is certainly some time ahead ;)

I am part of Cooperation Open Government Data Austria,
https://www.data.gv.at/infos/cooperation-ogd-oesterreich/

and we started some thoughts on activities we could organize like involvement in ministries, Innohubs, ODI Node Vienna activities etc. with measures like hackathons, public lectures, events in schools / high schools. We will certainly take advice from the measures undertaken in ODD16 and lessons learned.

For a start I would like to discuss domain availability of at.opendataday.org and any further organisational requirements.

All the best,

  Johann

Hi!

First of all, I think I need time to breath after ODD 16.

Secondly, OKI is currently running that domain, but we are not owning it. I think we need to have a bigger discussion about Open Data Day, who is taking care of these resources and HOW. Therefore, this is way bigger than just a discussion about Austria, but for the whole world.

Can we do that after we get more feedback and blog post so we can assess ODD 16 better?

Best,
Mor

Absolutely, no pressing at all. Just wanted to place that Austria for 2017 has the firm intention to participate in ODD and I am the contact.

Hi Mor,  I totally agree. I think I’ve not stood up to my end of the bargain and/or contribute enough. You did an amazing job.

Super happy to talk about this more.

Hi Mor et al,

Happy to discuss further on how to manage ODD in the future.

I think though that the main ODD page is a big chunk of information and code to maintain. Would prefer to give more opportunities and tools to chapters and groups. Eg. by giving subdomains and templates to work on. For hackathons and events we’ve created this lightwight template (http://openknowledgebe.github.io/AppsForXLight/) which can be hosted on GitHub as a static page or a more heavyweight solution such as https://github.com/openknowledgebe/AppsForX (running on October CMS). In that case, ODD would be more of a gathering page of different ODD initiatives rather than a main page containing all the info.

Just an idea that’s up for discussion.

And regardless of the main ODD discussion: Would be good though if the community could set a ODD17 date. Open Belgium Conference: http://2016.openbelgium.be/ Is normally always on the monday after Open Data Data, but we already start communicating in September while there was non consensus on what should be the next date.

Happy to think more about what can be done.

Kind regards,

I think setting a date for ODD 2017 is a really good idea. I will suggest three dates for consideration (all on Saturday):

18 Feb 2017
25 Feb 2017
04 Mar 2017

Hi all

From 27 February to 5 March it is a holidayweek in Belgium.
So I prefer 4 March or 18 February.

Hi all,

It might sound stupid, but we could do a poll on Google forms or http://www.poll-maker.com/
I do value the input of OK Japan as they have a lot of events during ODD. So happy to go with the 18th.

Pieter-Jan ...

Something online sounds like a good idea to try. Would you be willing to set it up? Would it be possible to rank choices 1, 2, 3 or would that be too much trouble?

Hi all,

For some weird reason ‘ranking' is not included in Google Forms. I used pollandmatch.com. It does ask a name and email, but no worries, we will not steal your
ID or sell your data to any 3rd party.

I have tweeted it from the main OKFN account on twitter! Let's get more feedback by spreading this poll on Twitter and Facebook. :-)

Hi all,

So far we had 27 responses and this is the result:

4 March has the most votes on N1 position (8) while 25 and 18 February have 7. So there is no big difference.
But you can se it also dominates on the second and third position.

So based on this chart 4 March 2017 should be the new ODD date.

What do you think?

Kind regards,
Pieter-Jan

I believe the poll is the winner, so 4th of March it is.
I should change it on the Open Data Day website to 2016 date.
