Why should i recalculate the header length in Omnet++?

Currently, i'm doing some network simulation with omnet++, mixim & veins

I just create my own Network layer packet based on NetwPkt which provided by default by Mixim, i'm wondering about the importance of setting the right header length.

• what is the importance of header length in the simulation ?
• is the header length related to bit error in the simulation ?
