Hello,

I am using omnet 4.5 and the latest inetmanet, and Windows 7.

Here are my procedures.  When I am building the project, it hangs at "Invoking Command: make MODE=debug CONFIGNAME=gcc debug -j4 all"

Install Omnet

  1. Download and unzip Omnet 4.4.1 win32 from: http://www.omnetpp.org/omnetpp/doc_details/2283-omnet-45-win32-source--ide--mingw-zip

      1. Open configure.user and change WITH_PARSIM=no (This is to try to fix the hanging error- another forum said to do this and it didn't help)

  2. Open mingwenv.cmd from the Omnet directory and type "./configure"

  3. In MINGW32 type "make"

  4. In MINGW32 type "omnetpp"

Install Inetmanet

  1. Download Inetmanet 2.4.0 from http://inet.omnetpp.org/index.php?n=Main.Download

  2. Extract the zip folder into the Omnet working directory.

  3. Open the omnet ide by opening MINGW32 and typing "omnetpp"

  4. Import Inetmanet using: File | Import | General | Existing projects into Workspace. Then select the workspace dir as the root directory, and be sure NOT to check the "Copy projects into workspace" box. Click Finish.

  5. Right Click project -> Build.

If anyone can help, either by suggesting different versions, or telling me how to fix this issue, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

The "hanging" is probably because INET and INETMANET's default setup uses all available CPU cores for building the respective projects.
The new Windows release (particularly the MinGW environment and their make toolchain) has problems with multiple make instances, your only way to get it right is to turn off parallel build (not to be mixed up with PARSIM, that's another thing).

Go to INET/INETMANET (or any other project that you plan to build) project features (right click on the project's name in the project explorer) -> Properties dialog window -> C/C++ Build -> Behaviour setting panel -> turn of "Enable parallel build".

Then it should work. Slow of course...
Only other chance is to either use the Linux version of OMNeT 4.5 or go back to OMNeT 4.4.x.

Just to make it clear, OMNeT++ 4.5 and 4.4 uses the same gcc toolchain, so it should not have any difference in behavior (OMNet 4.5b1 were using a newer version of gcc, but that was downgraded because of the hang issue). So, downgrading will not fix this issue, but as Michael pointed out, turning off the parallel build feature will.

Hmm that's interesting Rudolf, since parallel build works just fine under OMNeT 4.4.1 and since 4.5b1 and 4.5 it is always broken for me...

Make is indeed version 3.81 and GCC 4.7.2 in both versions.
Still, building OMNeT with -j option and Eclipse parallel build works under OMNeT 4.4.1 (for me).
Any other tools or settings that might differ between both releases?

Same problem... you mean building INET/INETMANET hangs?
If you can start the OMNeT IDE, then your operating system surely supports OMNeT.

OMNET should work fine under windows 8.1. As Michael pointed out, you should explicitly disable the parallel build option in the IDE. The MSYS version we are distributing with OMNeT++ contains a make version (3.8.1) that has race conditions if you use parallel build option. We are looking into this issue and testing newer versions on MSYS whether that solve the problem.

I have same problem and in my options enabled parallel build. In my case building reaches 59% and stopped. Don't warnings, errors, simply stopped. I have Windows 7, 64-bit. Do you have another ideas for solution this problem,

So disable parallel build like we wrote in this discussion thread and multiple others.
Or switch to a newer OMNeT version like 4.6!

Sir I am new omnet++ user..
I have installed Omnet++ with inet...
I have even understood NED and ini file of udp and tcp examples..
but i am confused to develop a network in which both TCP and UDP traffic
I just make a network of both(TCP and UDP) and by varying the buffer size find packet loss ratio, jitter , and end to end delay..

Kindly help me to make this..

I will remain thankful ..

Thanks

I have been using omnet++ 5 and inet 3.x and inetmanet 3.x. I have been encountering inet/inetmanet building error for a few days. before that it builds fine but took time for building. The error is Unhandled event loop exception Java heap space

I have tried these solutions but error is still there.

  1. I have changed heap size to 2 gb( RAM size is also 2gb) in omnetpp.ini
  2. I have unchecked c/c++ Build-> Enable parallel build.

Please suggest me a solution for it. Some times when i restart the computer inet builds but took so much time for building. but after that it stopped building with the above error.
