Dear OER colleagues,

 

Greetings from warm and sunny Lagos, Nigeria where I’m currently facilitating the 2^nd OER-MOOC Workshop at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

 

I’d like to highlight the story of Dr Jane-Frances Agbu, Lead Coordinator of the NOUN OER-MOOC Project, which was featured on the website of the European Union 2015 Year of Development website.

 

Funded by the European Commission and Hewlett Foundation, the NOUN OER-MOOC Project seeks to transform all 1,600+ courses of NOUN into full-featured OERs as well as launch new open-licensed MOOC versions of the courses to increase access and quality to higher education. The 1^st mobile-friendly MOOC is expected to attract 30,000 participants.

 

The NOUN OER-MOOC Portal is a 1^st for African universities currently offering full OERized courses in RTF (editable), PDF, and ePUB (mobile friendly) versions. 3 days ago a sensitization workshop for 150 NOUN staff had to be radically redesigned when 300 academic and support staff turned up to learn about OERs. The Asian component of the OER-MOOC Project has just launched with the 350,000-student-strong University Terbuka, Indonesia identifying Masters level courses for OERization and MOOCation.
