Hi everyone,

I have posted a summary of the New Zealand OERu partners meeting hosted at the Open Polytechnic on 24 July 2014.

Following Australia, this is the second regional meeting of OERu partners. Looking forward to other countries and regions planning their own meetups.

Hi Rory,

Thanks for sharing.

On a related note, the work we are doing with the OERu course site design project will implement responsive design for mobile devices. In recent months, approximately a third of the traffic visiting the WikiEducator website is from mobile devices. This is an order of magnitude higher than previous years.

Using the course snapsot approach, OERu partners will be able to assemble course materials suitable for mobile devices.

The 2014 KPCB Internet trends report (see slides 7 & 9) provides clear signals that the OERu should be designing for mobile first. In many parts of the developing world, I anticipate that we will reach the tipping point where the majority of web access will be through mobile devices and this is a prime audience for the OERu in widening access to affordable education.

As you know from your own research, designing for mobile first is different from conventional ODL models. Looking at the major MOOC platforms,  FutureLearn is way ahead of the game insofar as responsive design is concerned - the OERu needs to up its game for mobile design.
