1.  Mahoney vs. McDugle (HD 12 Wagoner).  OCPAC has endorsed Nick Mahoney in his heavyweight bout to unseat incumbent Rep. Kevin McDugle who was rated 43% conservative in his freshmen year, voting for socialized groceries, economic giveaway schemes, increased vehicle taxes, and higher fees on businesses.  And this year he voted for the largest tax hike in history, including taxes on gas, oil, tobacco, and church camps.

Worse than his voting record may be his character and his embarrassing decision to seek reelection.  According to Article 8 Section 1 of the state constitution, McDugle should have been impeached for cheating on his wife during session.  Historically, most legislators in his situation have resigned or not sought to continue in office, but McDugle brazenly filed to run again.  Furthermore, McDugle moved out of his district over a year ago when he split with his wife, and his primary residence, by his own admission, has not been in the district.  As a non-resident, he is not legally qualified to represent district 12, but in a highly suspect decision, the election board is letting him stay on the ballot because he might have the intention to move back to the district some day.  The district likely does not want him back any more than his ex-wife does.

Former Congressman Jim Bridenstine has retracted his endorsement of McDugle and asked that it be removed from McDugle’s website.  Similarly, State Rep. John Bennett has retracted his endorsement of Kevin and has endorsed Nick Mahoney.  Likewise, State Senator Josh Brecheen has endorsed Nick Mahoney.

Nick Mahoney is a social and constitutional conservative, and he has pledged not to submit to current Republicrat leadership.  He is not interested in a political career; he is interested in doing what is right and providing a strong conservative voice for traditional values.  He intends to serve and then return to his work as a Deputy Sheriff in Wagoner County.

2.  Brumbaugh vs. Ford (HD 76 Tulsa).  OCPAC has endorsed Shelley Brumbaugh in her welterweight bout to unseat Rep. Ross Ford.  Brumbaugh came up just ten votes short in last fall’s special election race for this House seat.  Instead of a true conservative, the legislature was saddled with the radical educrat Ross Ford, who voted for the massive tax increase on gas, oil, tobacco, and church camps.  In 2010, Ross Ford served on the Union schoolboard and voted to keep Buster’s Sugartime, a children’s book which features a lesbian couple, on the library shelf.  Voting to normalize deviant behavior in the minds of children does not represent conservative values.

3.  Gubernatorial Bout.  The title bout for governor is heating up as candidates begin to spend their campaign funds and go toe-to-toe at forums.  The biggest forum to date was hosted by The Oklahoman last Monday night, and the entire video is available.  The candidates’ personalities, beliefs, and policy proposals contrasted nicely.  Mick Cornett came out as a liberal progressive neo-con who supports a state-controlled economy through tax-and-spend policies.  Dan Fisher presented himself as a traditional conservative Republican who actually wants to uphold the party platform.  From social issues to economic issues, each of his answers was based on moral principles.  Gary Jones sounded like the accountant that he is.  He clearly had a firm grasp of the numbers, but unfortunately, he believes in tax hikes and other non-Republican ideas.  Todd Lamb spent the whole evening trying to sound tough and distance himself from his years of support and partnership with Gov. Mary Fallin.  Kevin Stitt presented himself as a businessman, and proposed that every government problem can be solved by approaching government as a business in a free market.  Unfortunately, government is by definition a socialistic monopoly, not a business, and if your matrix for decision making is only to ask what neighboring states are doing, then you can justify all kinds of bad policy just because everyone else is doing it.  As a lawyer, Gary Richardson argued that federal court opinions are preeminent and that states have no sovereign right to defy federal tyranny.

4.  Cornerman Randy Brogdon.  Former State Senator and gubernatorial candidate Randy Brogdon made the nightly news in Tulsa with his new ad campaign on abolishing abortion and asserting state sovereignty.  The story accurately reported Brogdon’s positions on abolition and state sovereignty.

5.  OCPAC Program.  On Wednesday, May 2, at noon at Mama Roja we will interview candidates for Senate Districts 6 (Atoka, Bryan, Coal, Johnston, Marshall), 10 (Kay, Osage), 36 (Tulsa Wagoner), 40 (Oklahoma), and others who might attend.
