++  WELCOME TO OUR NEW READERS!

Welcome to the many new readers on the OCPAC e-mail list. For your information, I never loan, sell or give your names to anyone and I try not to send out more than one e-mail per week. The e-mails contain organizational information as well as conservative commentary and insider information about Oklahoma politics, government and the culture war right here in Oklahoma.

Besides being a PAC we are also a club having met every Wednesday but 3 for the past 23 years. Our mission statement is as follows:  TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT CONSTITUTIONALISTS IN GOVERNMENT WHO OPPOSE EXPANSIVE GOVERNMENT WHILE AT THE SAME TIME PROMOTE LIBERTY, FREE MARKET ECONOMICS, AND JUDEO-CHRISTIAN STANDARDS.

Often times the weekly e-mails are a little long, containing about the same amount of news and commentary content as that of a small town weekly newspaper. I headline the issues so the reader can choose the content of interest. If we want good government it is vital that we educate ourselves as to those principles and then urge our elected officials to govern in such a way. Much of the weekly e-mails are dedicated to those education processes.

++  AGENDA FOR THIS WEEK’S MEETING

Our 12 noon luncheon for Wednesday, July 2nd 2014 will be held at Olivet Baptist Church, 1201 Northwest 10 street in OKC. Many have asked if I plan to do my presentation titled, The State and Local Chambers, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, at a location somewhere in the metropolitan area? I will do the presentation this Wednesday so we can video it and put it on our web site.

By the way, last week’s meeting was recorded and several folks came up to me after the meeting to express their belief that our speaker, Dean Gotcher, was perhaps the most important speaker we have ever had at OCPAC. That means a lot of competition for Mr. Gotcher, but his message is vital to understand the breakdown of the family, the denigration of our education system, the impotence of the Church in America and why Obama’s “hope and change” agenda is coming about. In addition, Lt. Governor Todd Lamb’s comments about those with an “R” by their name not really being what we should be standing for and lacking a vision was also very important. If you have the time to view our meeting it will be well worth it. www.oklahomacpac.com

++  AMERICA: THE MOVIE

About 2 years ago 2016 the Movie, produced by Dinesh D’Souza, hit the theaters. That movie was and still is, probably the best thing going to expose Obama, the man as far as what motivates him in his performance as President. Officially starting this Wednesday in theaters across America is a sequel called, America: The Movie.

From what I know at this time, this movie is more about the people and movement that produced Obama, rather than Obama himself. The plan is to run the movie for 1 week. However, if attendance is high, it could run for an additional time such as the movie, God Is Not Dead, which ran for 6 or 7 weeks. If the movie is as good as its billing, it will be a far more important way to honor the signing of the Declaration of Independence than any parade or fire works demonstration anywhere in Oklahoma. A special preview will begin tonight, Tuesday, July 1st at Tinseltown 7:00 p.m. or the Regal Spotlight Stadium in Norman 7:00 and 9:45 p.m.

++  WHY LANKFORD & HOFMEISTER WON THE PRIMARY!

First congratulations to both of them, I believed both would be in the lead after primary night, I just didn’t expect both of them to win it outright on primary night. James Lankford will cruise to an easy victory in the general election, that won’t be so easy for Joy Hofmeister this November.

There were several keys to the Lankford victory. First, James is the finest communicator in Oklahoma. Communication skills always give an advantage to those that are great at it versus those with less skills. That is not to say the other candidates were slouches as they were also good communicators, James is simply the best. However, the biggest reason for his victory was the unofficial endorsement by current Senator Tom Coburn.

While Coburn’s endorsement is not that valuable in a general election it is pure gold in a Republican primary. Coburn’s defense of Lankford’s character while under attack was valuable, but his allowing James to make a commercial using his statement was the 24 carat gold “unofficial” endorsement. Coburn also vouched for T.W.’s character, but no commercials using his words were made, at least not to my knowledge.

One could make the case for Coburn’s preference of James over T.W. being related to Coburn’s disagreement with Ted Cruz, so much so that Coburn did everything possible to cut Cruz’s legs out from under him when Cruz was trying to use the Constitutional method of reigning in a run-away Executive branch of government by shutting down the funding. Coburn kept saying it won’t work, it won’t work and shazam, his words became a self-fulfilling prophecy as it didn‘t work. With Cruz coming to Oklahoma to endorse T.W., it pushed Coburn into Lankford’s camp, if he wasn’t already there in the first place?

The Baptist thing also was huge, far more important this time than his initial victory when he ran for the 5th district congressional seat in 2010. Besides James running the largest youth camp in America for 15 years, he also was a guest or “fill in” preacher in Baptist churches all across the State and therefore earned the trust of Baptists everywhere. Then the final perspective was James having served in Congress for nearly 4 years now, he could speak to issues as one having the real knowledge and gravitas to be our next Senator.

Just remember, 80% or more of those folks voting don’t follow issues closely and therefore are not really aware of the details of any incumbent’s performance in office. As far as policy is concerned, their vote for James was a vote for the Republican establishment’s agenda. The center line of that agenda is to play it safe, don’t rock the boat and run the risk of not winning the next election.

The agenda is to expand the Republican numbers in the House, win the Senate in November and then win the Presidency in 2016, then we can really make a difference! I of course hope those events happen, however, with the Senate full of the Thad Cochran’s of the party and others like him in the House and if the Republican in the White House is another Bush, things will change around the edges, but other than that nothing will change that will make any real difference. Mark my words, I will stand by them if the scenario comes to pass. I will say this, if we insist upon having an establishment Senator, James will be the best one we can hope for.

Joy Hofmeister’s victory was not so much a vote for Joy as it was an anti-Janet Barresi vote. The depth of the anti-Barresi sentiments was far more than most observers expected. So much so that an un-known opportunist actually came in at second place. As just one example, while I was speaking in Ponca City this past week, one of those in attendance came up to me and told me of a conversation he had with the Superintendent of the Ponca City schools. He was told by this local superintendent that he had changed to the Republican party simply to vote against State Superintendent Barresi.

I sure hope he changes back for the future of the Republican party as he is without question the most overpaid superintendent in Oklahoma and an example of what is wrong with our government schools. He is the 3rd highest paid superintendent in the State of Oklahoma but overseeing a school district much smaller than many of those larger districts with lower paid superintendents. In addition, his district does not stand out academically above many much smaller districts. Of course that is a problem created by the members of the local school board. Think school board elections aren’t important?

++  HOW DID OCPAC PRIMARY CANDIDATES PERFORM?

I will not go into detail here, preferring to wait until after the primary run-off elections on August 26th. However, I will share these numbers. Of the candidates we endorsed, 10 candidates won their races, 7 lost and we have 5 candidates in the run-off races. Of those in the run-off elections, 2 of them are in the first position and 3 are in the second position. However, I will discuss two of our victories as they were both elected to the Senate.

Jack Fry will be a good replacement for the conservative Senator Cliff Aldridge who was term limited out of office this year. He beat a tough campaigner in former Senator Greg Childers, who won our RINO award for the one year he spent in the Senate and then, because of a quirk in re-districting, had to step aside until this election cycle. In this race Republicans were able to preserve a conservative senate seat.

The other victory will make a big difference as freshman State Representative Jason Smalley gained a huge victory in a 5 candidate primary to replace the term limited Harry Coates. Coates won our RINO award 3 times and was the runner-up on two other occasions. Oklahoma Republicans have changed out a very liberal Harry Coates for the conservative Jason Smalley.

We put $2,000 into each of these campaigns, which was a much bigger factor in Jack Fry’s race than that of Jason Smalley’s. The folks that step up to the plate and join OCPAC by becoming a dues paying member is what allows us to make a difference in races such as these. If you have not joined as yet, please do so now. We will soon start interviewing Republican candidates running against Democrats in November. I want to thank everyone for their support.

I look forward to seeing everyone this Wednesday.
