If Gerry was illiterate he would neither have been a woodwork teacher nor a teacher.

AFAIK a woodwork teacher has to be an experienced tradesperson before becoming a teacher. You just cannot go to teachers college and learn to be a woodwork teacher.

And this all indicated that Gerry had a useful and respectable job in the real world before either being a woodwork teacher or entering Parliament - something which many leftwing MP's have never had.

witha Labour/Green coalition now.
