Is there some example code which demonstrates roaming between WiFi APs based on distance ?
If not, will it be possible for someone to guide me on this? I saw an old related post https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/ns-3-users/Gqnyl3RgMY4 but I don't quite understand the implementation part of it.

From some other threads I find that automatic association/de-association of client to WiFi APs was earlier not present. So if its not added yet, some directions would be of great help.

Roaming is not yet supported; neither is automatic
association/deassociation of client to WiFi APs (other than
deassociation and reassociation to the same channel/SSID if too many
beacons are lost).

I would also be interested in learning if anyone is working on
supporting this?

Hi Tom,

If I use the same channel/SSID, when does the handoff to the other AP take place? Does it associate to nearest AP? Or is there some parameter I can specify?

I have 2 APs and a client moving at some distance from them. But client seems to receive beacons from both APs at all times on Animation Interface.

Is there some example code for this?
Thanks.

I think it receives data through the first AP only the whole time.

Yeah. Even im working on a problem where there are two APs (same channel/ssid) situated very far away. In the beginning the client is near AP1 and is connected to AP1. Then it moves far away from AP1 and comes in range of AP2. It receives beacons from AP2 and an association request/response takes place. But the ARP from the AP isnt resolved.

Also I have verified that when there are more than one AP sending beacons, the client connects to the AP whose beacon it receives first.

Use OLSR. ARP will get resolved. You might have to change IP addresses if you are using two different subnets.

You'd have to add the paths also using static routing after changing address if you are using OLSR. I am not sure if any protocol can take care of re-routing in wifi after changing address.

Velocity is too high. Make it move gradually and see what happens.
