Esteemed fellow hack-spacers.

Due to unavoidable obligation and with great pressure I can finally announce the 2018 Nottingham Crapathon
This year it will be free of charge as normal, however to encourage "fresh blood"  new hack-space members will enjoy a 10% discount.

Hacker food will be provided, normally some sort of reconstituted potato starch snacks with chemicals spayed on, dips, pizza and there might even be cake, (TBD).
You know the sort of thing, honestly I don't know yet but any special requests or dietary requirements let me know.

More seriously, Its a really fun event run along the lines of a hackathon with a twist in that entries should serve no convenionaly useful purpose, better described below. Feel free to come along, it's a good opportunity for newer and older members to meet and network in a light  hearted competition,. You only need to turn up to take part or even just to observe the unfolding calamity.

Here are some pictures here from last year

As it will be almost nearly Halloween and according to Kate, on Fox Mulder's Birthday, this year the theme is Spooky, however it is  within the sprint of Crapathon that relevance to the theme can be imaginatively tentative,  Awards are determined by balot of the participants.
I am very much looking forward to a great event and seeing you all on the day. more details below.

Andrew

What am I letting myself in for?

Saturday 13 st October 2018

A one day hackathon event at Nottinghack to conceptualise and create projects with absolutely no value whatsoever.

  • Create a problem no-one has ever encountered or thought might be a problem

  • Design a solution!

  • Build it!

  • Demo it!

  • Win a really crap award!

Rough schedule will be:

  • 12:00 pm – HIGH NOON It officially starts! some sort of noise will be emitted along with a few inspirational words from the organizer

  • 7:00 pm - You’re done! Stop making stuff! Eat food!

  • Demos! Voting! Awards! Socialise! (Bring a bottle)

  • Later on: Neon Raptor? King Billy? and or- Go home!, depending on energy levels.

Stuck for ideas ... ?

from previous contraptions, some can still be seen the the comfy area

* Apologies in advance if not described correctly and your many brilliant and creative entries I’ve omitted

  • High fidelity Virtual Hack space headset
  • Cheesoid Robot

  •  Booth for the private consumption of peg related literature

  • Tourbot 9000

  • Scary eye  scull security thingy

  • A rarely Annoying Box

  • Therimin playing robot

  • The object identifier

  • And those damn Bunny Ocarinas

  • A Springy Fingers Thing

  • Suggestions box that automatically processes all submissions

  • The "One True God" box

  • Hover Toaster

  • Rocket (salad type) launcher

  • An extended hand

  • Automatic face recognising laser blinder

  • A Scientology style skin conductivity meter

  • A box of F*@ks!

  • Who can forget the big pink arse thing that dispensed stuff?

There are pics on the Nottinghack Facebook Page and probably in other places too…

Need more ideas ... ?

This event is free of charge. Entry is open to members and non-members.

You can work individually or in teams. Spectators are also welcome!

Previous Crapathon FAQ

Q. Are there any rules?

Q. Can I start earlier / later in the day?

A. Yes, sure, no problem.

Q. Will the laser cutter be reserved for the Crapathon?
