Does this mean we will also get Google Fiber connections?

<snort, snort>

I'd, uhh… go for it if it is reasonably priced…

I mean, offering the NSA gigabit access to all my home computers?  Who wouldn't whoop and holler?!!  Why should these hard-working tireless public servants have to WAIT for my data?

I doubt it.
Likely this will only be back haul redundancy.
However if they decide to replicate KC I would be fine.

As ATT isn't upgrading our Demarc Boxes anytime soon. Even though the demarc box is literally at the CO driveway. The last time I had an issue it was the CO's fault.

I barely am able to get 11/1 service, so someone is going to have to pay to upgrade the equipment before I can get IPTV.
However ATT does one bill my DirecTV, DSL, and VOIP/uverse home phones. The two cellular were discounted as well.

YMMV
Cheers

Yiaway Yeh at the Mayor's new Office of Innovation has already approached Google on the fiber issue, in fact before he signed a non disclosure agreement with NES he told me that Nashville has an enormous amount of unused dark fiber that positions us quite well for a serious initiative with Google. Metro was looking at the arrangement that was recently made with the city of Provo as a good example of what we might do here. Yiaway was curious how the community might respond to and support such a fiber initiative. I reassured him we would be happy to provide all the public will he needs. :)

NES has lots of dark around town. Sadly not enough to light GPON for most of the city.

But since NES does already have the right of ways it could make such a project way easier.
