On Wednesday August 30, 2017 at approximately 10:30 pm, Detectives from the Sussex County Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force and the Newton Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Swartswood Road as part of an ongoing investigation. Howard Dieterle, a 56-year-old male from Fredon was a passenger in the vehicle and was found to be in possession of heroin. During the investigation, further information was developed that led to the arrest of Shana Segarra, a 36-year-old female from Newton, for distribution of heroin. Segarra was arrested at her residence on Swartswood Road. The driver of the vehicle was not charged.
Dieterle was charged with 2 counts of Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance [heroin], 2C:35-5b (3), a Third Degree Crime and 1 count of Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance [heroin], 2C:35-10a (1), a Third Degree Crime. He was subsequently lodged in the Sussex County Jail pursuant to the New Jersey Bail Reform Act.
Segarra was charged with 2 counts of Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance [heroin], 2C:35-5b (3), a Third Degree Crime and she was released pending an appearance in Superior Court, Central Judicial Processing.
