On 1/1/18 at 2:10p.m., the Newton Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting that a pick-up truck had crashed into a house at 57 High Street and that the vehicle was trying to leave the scene. Officers responded to the area and found the vehicle being operated by Tod A. Theise, age, 55, of Hackettstown, N.J.
Investigation revealed that Theise was under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested. Subsequently, it was determined that Theise also had an open container of alcohol in his possession and that he had caused substantial damage to the structure located at 57 High Street. As a result, the Newton Fire Department, Newton Water and Sewer Department, Newton Code Enforcement Official and the Newton Rescue Squad responded to the scene.
Theise was then charged with the following:
39:4-50 Operating A Motor Vehicle While Under The Influence.
39:40-2 Refusal to Submit to Chemical Breath Test
39:4-97 Careless Driving
39:4-51b Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle
Theise was released pending an upcoming court appearance.
