Arrest - DWI (Hit and Run MVA)

On 2/25/18 at 8:54p.m., Newton Police were dispatched to the area of Plainfield Avenue for a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident. 

Upon arrival, witnesses indicated that a white Jeep backed into a parked vehicle and left the scene heading towards West Nelson Street.  Subsequently, responding patrols located the vehicle in question at the intersection of West Nelson Street and Ridgewood Avenue.

Investigation revealed that the driver, Ernest Wallace, age 58, of Madison Street, Newton was intoxicated and he was arrested for being under the influence. 

As a result, Wallace was issued summonses for the following offenses:

39:4-97        Careless Driving

39:4-129b    Leaving the Scene of an Accident

39:4-130      Failure to Report an Accident

39:4-50        Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence
