Newton Police received a 9-1-1 call on Friday March 9, 2018 at 12:33pm of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Spring Street and Madison Street. Upon arrival, police found a 50-year-old female, Michele Krasnomowitz, a resident of Hamburg, sitting near the marked crosswalk on Madison Street being assisted by witnesses.
Investigating Officers determined that Matthew Miglin, a 53-year-old resident of Hampton Township, was operating a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado west on Spring Street when he abruptly made a left turn onto Madison Street and struck Krasnomowitz who was in the crosswalk, knocking her to the ground, causing a head injury. Witnesses indicated they observed Krasnomowitz in the crosswalk walking east when she was struck by the Miglin. Mrs. Krasnomowitz was transported by Newton First Aid Squad to the Newton Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment of her injuries. Miglin was issued a summons for failure to observe a pedestrian in a crosswalk – NJS 39:4-36.
